Subject: RE: BS: Tobacco Company Funds Disability Charity From: Richie Black (misused acct, bad email) Date: 18 Jan 11 - 07:31 AM Government tax in the UK on cigarettes is just over 80%. There has been a huge rise in the number or Smuggled cigarettes being sold in all areas of Britain. The Canary Island are part of Spain and hence belong to the European Union. They do however not belong to the European customs union and 20 cigarettes cost as little as 4.20 euro a packet. Every corner shop in this area sell sleeves of 200 for as little as 20.00. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tobacco Company Funds Disability Charity From: Ebbie Date: 18 Jan 11 - 02:10 PM The other day I saw a sign that offered a special on cigarettes: $7.69 a pack. I understand the rationale behind taxing the bejesus out of tobacco products but ye gods! |

Subject: RE: BS: Tobacco Company Funds Disability Charity From: maple_leaf_boy Date: 19 Jan 11 - 12:50 PM Our tobacco prices depend on the province. In New Brunswick, a pack of 25 Next brand cigarettes are $6.01. (Quoting the newspaper). In Nova Scotia, that same brand is wholesaled to retailers for more than that, before the retailer marks up the price. I spend $11.00 for a pack. People in Nova Scotia who live close enough to New Brunswick cross the border for cheaper smokes. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tobacco Company Funds Disability Charity From: GUEST,999 Date: 19 Jan 11 - 01:56 PM The current tax grab is the direct cause of illegal tobacco being so popular. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tobacco Company Funds Disability Charity From: GUEST,999 Date: 19 Jan 11 - 02:06 PM 200 grams of tobacco in Alberta--about $85. 200 grams of tobacco in Quebec--about $55-60. 200 grams of illegal tobacco--about $13-18. Governments wonder why the illegal trade has shot up and sales at stores have dropped a bit. Maybe the excessive taxation is the reason. |
