my problem is I cannot get the measures to work correctly
Have you tried clapping to the music? Maybe you can make an ABC text of the note names, then listen to the sound (e.g. from ABCExplorer) and correct the lengths until it sounds and looks right. If you get stuck, post your best ABC guess here, and we can try to (take a sad song and) make it better.

To Leeneia"s post 27 Jan,2011: To the best of my knowledge the mp3 is not on the web. I do have it.   I could send it on to you via email if I had an address. I am unable to find a way to post it in a PM fromn this site. I could also send the note names as they come consecutively - Key sig. sharps flats etc. my problem is I cannot get the measures to work correctly. I could print it from ABC programs or write it into ABC if I had the dots. I could then print it back to sheet music. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Jim, if you have a Windows computer, why don't you try AmazingMIDI? If your fiddler is any good, your chances are not too bad, though I pricipally agree with IvanB (27 Jan 11 - 11:25 AM).

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. The tune was played on the fiddle and recorded on a small digital recorder and transfered from wave to mp3 by real player. I have tried to write the tune in ABC format but cannot seem to get it correct. Have tried unsuccesfully to get someone locally to write the dots but have not had any luck. I shall try to PM the mp3 to Ivan and perhaps he can put it into some format. If it was in ABC I could then transfer it to sheet music using ABC2 or ABC Navigator. However sheet music format would be ideal. I am not looking for monetary gain from this composition. Just want to be able to offer it to fiddlers in hopes it will be played years after I am gone. Thanks again. Jim

Duly noted, Ivan. Let's see what HiHo says.

I tried Amazing Midi years ago and it was nowhere near close. To my knowledge there's no program yet available to meet this challenge.

That said, I could easily transcribe it and provide a PDF file or, leenia, if you send me a midi I could put it in abc and/or PDF formats.

Let's back up. HiHo is asking for the sticks and dots for one short mp3.

1. HiHo, is the mp3 on the web somewhere I can listen to it?

2. If I made a MIDI of it and Joe posted it, do you have music software which could print it?

3. Failing that, could somebody here convert my MIDI to abc, which could then be converted at the Tune-o-tron?

Just trying to help.

Nutty, are you sure? I've been using NWC for many years and have never come across an MP3 -> NWC facility. NWC is good, but it's not that good.

I suspect you're thinking of MIDI files ...

A free program is AmazingMIDI. It works "relatively well" with music of relatively clear and regular rhythms. You will still need a good ear to correct the errors, but you can save a lot of time.

If you don't know how to convert MP3 to WAV and MIDI to sheet music, ask us.

Hello: I am looking for (preferably freeware or shareware) program to convert an MP3 to sheet music. Does anyone know of such a program that works relatively well? Does anyone have a program or could transcribe it manually? I only have one short tune. I could send the mp3 and the note names by email. Thanks: Jim
