Subject: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:07 PM Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit in May Buckingham Palace has confirmed US President Barack Obama will come to the UK on a state visit in May. How dare he after his disgusting BP slagging. Who is going to pay for this? We are literally bankrupt as a country and millions of people are so poorly off. Me no like. Stay away Obama. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Ebbie Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:09 PM sheesh Since when does a hosting country foot the bill for a visiting dignitary? "Disgusting BP slagging"? Surely you jest. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:20 PM If Obama is paying for all the security etc etc then he is very welcome. We are a very poor country. I was not happy over the BP British issue. Lets just leave it at that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:28 PM Oh, boy! More recreational outrage. Ook! Ook! ;-D "How dare he after his disgusting BP slagging." Ummm..."dare"? Whaddya mean? I frankly doubt that it ever occurred to Obama that he was darin' anyone by makin' a visit to the UK. "Who is going to pay for this?" Hard to say, but I know I won't be. Good thing too. I am a bit short at the moment. "We are literally bankrupt as a country and millions of people are so poorly off." Sounds like you're talking about hometown USA! ;-) "Me no like." Now yer talkin' like Tarzan. You can do better than that, but if that's what ya want, fine by me. Try this on fer size: Me Chongo. You human. Me no like. Go away. - Chongo |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:41 PM Yes Chimps are welcome. As for going away, that's not possible. I live in the UK. Why do i have to like Obama? |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:43 PM You're under no obligation to like Obama. ;-) Chongo was just "taking the piss", I think is the British expression... Actually, he tends to be rather critical of Obama too. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 17 Feb 11 - 02:28 PM LOL you naughty Chimp, Chongo, trying to extract the Michael :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Max Johnson Date: 17 Feb 11 - 02:41 PM He's welcome to crash at my place for a couple of nights if there's any problems at the palace. In fact, he could give me a hand with the decorating, so it'd work out pretty well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Feb 11 - 02:45 PM I'm not quite clear, Max...are you referring to Chongo? Or Obama? |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,kendall Date: 17 Feb 11 - 02:58 PM We all trashed BP and they deserved it. As I understand it, they are no longer a British company, but rather a multi national giant that is mostly Dutch. He has to keep moving so the republican can't draw a bead on him! (Figuratively speaking) |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Gurney Date: 17 Feb 11 - 03:02 PM Kid Stuff! We are expecting a visit from a Canadian who was once the captain of the S.S.Enterprise! That should please LH, to see him on the other side of the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Feb 11 - 03:05 PM The US take on BP was (at least it felt like) antiBritish bigotry - and now established to be wrong in that the fault lay in other companies. I quite like Obama although a little more spine would be good - now if he would kindly pay his embassy's parking fines and their outstanding congestion charges rather than being more royalist than the king it would go down quite well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 17 Feb 11 - 03:08 PM If he pays all the costs Richard, I will be happy. Maybe he can pay my council tax as well for a year. That would help a bit. If Chimps got on the plane and got into the engines, would it cause the plane to crash? |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Feb 11 - 03:09 PM Shatner is such a BIG man that he can be on the other side of the world just by standing right where he is now... He has become virtually omnipresent. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: DougR Date: 17 Feb 11 - 07:40 PM Now, if we could just figure out a way for him to stay there. DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Bill D Date: 17 Feb 11 - 08:11 PM I am not sure what is getting to some.... they want to claim that BP is "not exactly British", yet they are offended as if they are still claiming it AS British. I think the headquarters is still in England, and in the former 'discussion', I read most of the complaints as against BP's attitude and handling of the gulf emergency. I saw nothing in President Obama's comments that would indicate condemnation of the UK, and state visits happen all the time between important nations, and feeling defensive because he was critical of that non-British company which sounds British and has its headquarters in England is downright silly! |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Feb 11 - 09:07 PM You don't have to "stay" anywhere when you're omnipresent, Doug. ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Gurney Date: 17 Feb 11 - 09:30 PM Sorry, LH, but you do! You have no choice, because there is nowhere else that you CAN go. (-: |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Arthur_itus Date: 18 Feb 11 - 02:47 AM Could it be that Obama is wanting to become our new king when the Queen finishes doing the job? King Barack - no it doesn't sit well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,Steamin' Willie Date: 18 Feb 11 - 09:22 AM Tell you what, let's stop all state visits eh? That way, we will have to rely on trade based on merit rather than playing on the twee yet convenient view that others have of us? Back in the '70s, we were known for Rolls Royces, yet the reality was British Leyland and Red Robbo. Only our reputation based on James Watt, I K Brunel and others kept our exports up. Come the '80s and I was trying to sell British engineering overseas. Describing Big Ben to a dude in Chicago was a hell of a lot easier than explaining our workmanship and prices in order to get business. State visits never cost money, but by heck they make them. Trade deals always accompany them. In case anybody forgot, we have a government who may make decisions that clash with many peoples' views, but if there is to be any recovery at all, they are gambling on the private sector leading it. And that means trade. And that means persuading the USA to stop being so protectionist and open up markets. And that means state visits. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Feb 11 - 10:26 AM Mrs Obama committed the cardinal sin recently of putting her arm around HM. I wonder if she'll do it again? I must say it looked very funny to see the tiny, dumpy Queen (who seems to have shrunk lately) between the tall and elegant Obamas. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Feb 11 - 10:50 AM People do shrink as they move from the prime of life into middle age and into old age, Eliza. Just wait and see. ;-) I am now about an inch shorter than I was 10 or 15 years ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Feb 11 - 11:34 AM Little Hawk, I'm afraid I don't need to 'wait and see', as I'm already much shorter than I was ten years ago. However, I've made up for it by being several inches fatter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Feb 11 - 11:45 AM Ah! The "Shatner Method" of resisting diminution. Way to go, Eliza. ;-) I'm getting a bit more of a belly myself...much to my annoyance. If this process of getting shorter, yet wider was followed to its ultimate conclusion, we would all end up looking like pancakes eventually. |
Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Feb 11 - 11:50 AM er... funny you should say that... It will soon be a case of 'Roll Out The Barrel' with me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barack Obama coming to UK on state visit From: Teribus Date: 19 Feb 11 - 02:20 AM Oh good perhaps we can the return the boxed set of DVD's he gave as an official gift to Gordon of Cartoon. Is "The Saint" just swinging by on his way France? Maybe he is coming over to tell us all about him keeping his boot on the neck of Chevron/Texaco responsible for massive environmental damage in the Amazon Basin equivalent to 8 times the Macondo spill every year for a period of 18 years. But somehow I doubt that he will Chevron/Texaco after all being an American Company trying to duck out of an 8 billion US$ fine. The claimants did want 27 billion US$ in compensation, now what was it that BP volunteered to pay again when they could have hidden behind a 75million US$ cap? Tony H of BP was right the Macondo spill was literally "A drop in the Ocean" whereas the spill Chevron are being taken to task for in a court case that has been ongoing since 1993 is 146 times the magnitude and occurred on land where oil and toxic waste has seeped into the soil and poisoned the water table, completely destroyning the land and the forest. |
