Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: olddude Date: 02 Mar 11 - 10:57 AM Absolutely Becca that was my point. I do like her music ... I think she is very talented for sure. She writes and performs her own music and I appreciate that a lot. So many today the music is just manufactured and not original. Heck in modern country music they have a staff of writers that just churn out the same melody with different lyric and the performer never wrote a song in his or her life. All done for them. At least she writes her own stuff. I like her voice. She is a fine musician and I could care less about the crazy outfits. That is just for marketing and there aint nothing wrong with marketing |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Becca72 Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:56 AM So what if she does dress weird? Look at Queen, Judas Priest, KISS and, as Dan mentioned, Elton John. She's certainly not the first and she won't be the last. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: olddude Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:35 AM Most people hate gaga because of the crazy outfits she wears. But In the mid 70's I saw Elton John come on stage with pink hot pants, a head dress from a show girl and his glasses with the windshield wipers on them. she is a master at marketing. I guess speechless was written for her dad when he said he wasn't going to allow the doc to do chemo or something like that. She got mad at him .. he eventually did what the docs wanted |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Becca72 Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:30 AM (damn it!) Grammy's was great, especially since I LOVE Elton John: I was lucky enough to see it live |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Becca72 Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:29 AM While I don't often admit it in public, I actually kinda like Lady Gaga. Her performance at last year's |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: olddude Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:15 AM She writes he own music. Before she started performing on her own she has written hit songs for a pile of people. Yup she is a master marketing person for sure. Knows how to push it ... but I have listened to a bunch of her music. I find her very creative. She actually plays and sings and doesn't just recite bad poetry to a bass drum as in most modern music. I think she is better than Madonna - as she writes her own stuff. I like the young girl. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 02 Mar 11 - 07:01 AM LOL Patsy! What about a nice ensemble made of Spring Greens? Very seasonal and should be acceptable to all, including vegetarians. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 02 Mar 11 - 06:47 AM That's what I mean Eliza, what next after the dress made of meat? It certainly isn't going to gain her any fans from vegetarians that's for sure. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 02 Mar 11 - 06:20 AM I'm sure I read recently that the poor lady has LUPUS and gets very tired! One would wonder why, if so, she lives this mad and exhausting life in the maelstrom of the pop world. (tons of money I expect) I have to say I do like her songs, and prefer her to Madonna. 'Just Dance' is one of my favourites. But that dress made of MEAT? Why?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,lively Date: 02 Mar 11 - 06:08 AM Her act is an example of form over function IMO. Initially I found her theatrical packaging to be very engaging, but my interest quickly died on hearing predictable formulaic pop that could have been made twenty years ago. Her presentation promises much but the musical product is seriously underwhelming and fails to deliver. Which is a pity because the music industry could do with some innovators and movers and shakers out there in the spotlight. That said, she's not going to go away any time soon. Most definitely a successful self-promoter easily slipping into the glamorous shoes and basque of older divas such as Madonna and Kylie, who are also mainly known for sparkly spectacle and for their devoted (gay in particular - she's got that Judy Gardland factor) fan base. Perhaps her success may set a style precedent which will encourage the music industry to take a few risks with genuinely innovative artists, but I won't be holding my breath. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 02 Mar 11 - 04:20 AM It is going to come to a point as it did with Madonna back in 'the day' that anything Lady Gaga does next is not going to suprise or shock people anymore unless she re-invents herself dramatically, eventually another Lady Gaga type person (mark 2) will fill her place in time. I am more of a Lily Allen person myself but disappointed in her reasoning lately that Lady Gaga is really a fella beneath the clothes, that's just daft. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Mar 11 - 02:44 AM As a grumpy old git, whose wife is many years his junior and makes damn sure that he stays awake and keeps up, I think Lady Ga-Ga's music is a great, undemanding respite from the navel-gazing, body-counting, "issue"-laden stuff I'm wont to perform myself. Switch off brain and enjoy. And the miserable moaners needn't worry, like most of her pop-industry ilk, she'll be forgotten within twelve months and that world will move on. Anyway, they surely can't hear her with their fingers in their ears can they? :-) :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: MGM·Lion Date: 02 Mar 11 - 01:02 AM What alanabit & LH said ~ + that my wife, who is more of a poppie than a folkie [she greatly enjoyed a Bon Jovi concert at Madison Sq Gardens last week while she was away on a film acting course at NY Film Acad], much admires Lady G tho fully aware of the Madonna-clone aspect. For heaven's sake, the Cat is surely the place for a bit of live·&·let·live ~~ esp as the engineering aspects of the use of elephants in transportation &c might even be of some interest, eh alanabit? ~Michael~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Mar 11 - 12:48 AM She has mostly been off of my radar, but her latest song that she performed at the Grammy's is a good message for the times. I Was Born This Way. It might help if you don't watch the video - It's part of a larger alien kind of storyline. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Mar 11 - 12:39 AM Hmmm. I was certainly aware that Lady Gaga existed, but I hadn't actually heard her at all until seeing that video of "Speechless". I like the piano playing, and she does a good vocal performance too, although she's not in a type of style that interests me much. Definitely the update of Madonna, I'd say, and I expect she will continue to do well with it. But Jeri has it absolutely nailed when she says, "don't let that get in the way of the enjoyment you're getting out of being pissed off. Heaven knows there haven't been nearly enough threads on Mudcat to appease the folks addicted to rage." Bingo, Jeri! ;-D The existence of Lady Gaga does not trouble me, and why should it? |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: alanabit Date: 02 Mar 11 - 12:26 AM She is basically the update of Madonna: A highly effective and well organised businesswoman, who knows how to present and market her products. As a fan of folk and blues music, I find her products uninteresting. Good luck to anyone who does. It is a little baffling to find her as a topic for discussion here - a bit like finding a discussion of a an elephant on an engineering site. Still, folks talk about whatever they want to - and I have no problem with that! |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: olddude Date: 01 Mar 11 - 10:02 PM I think she is cool .... sorry :-) poker face ... cool song |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Bobert Date: 01 Mar 11 - 09:33 PM BOOYAH, Q??? Maybe I haven't read the ads??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: artbrooks Date: 01 Mar 11 - 09:11 PM I don't see the ads on Mudcat. Thank you, Adblock Plus. |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Bobert Date: 01 Mar 11 - 08:04 PM Hey, I don't dig her music 'cause it sucks... But as an artist, she's far-fuckin'-out... I mean, way outta the box... B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Jeri Date: 01 Mar 11 - 06:40 PM The ads are not FROM Mudcat, however, don't let that get in the way of the enjoyment you're getting out of being pissed off. Heaven knows there haven't been nearly enough threads on Mudcat to appease the folks addicted to rage. Here ya go: Lady Gaga, Speechless |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Greg F. Date: 01 Mar 11 - 06:36 PM Ya mean Lady Tits and Ass, Dontcha? What the hell does that have to do with music? |
Subject: RE: BS: Lady Gaga? From: GUEST,999 Date: 01 Mar 11 - 06:29 PM What is a lady gaga. |
Subject: BS: Lady Gaga? From: Fossil Date: 01 Mar 11 - 06:27 PM "BS/Non-Music" seems about the right place for this thread, and for a little while it might appear right next to the ad for Lady GG's new record which Mudcat seems to be promoting. Oh, come on! We're a site devoted to *real* music, aren't we? (However you define it). Has the 'cat finally sold out? Answers, please... |
