I might try and get over to your singaround George. I'm probably playing at Gerry McNeice's night at the Cricket Club again.I did a half-hour there last year and it was fairly rowdy, so I might come over to this Elephant thingy for some peace and quiet - as long as you're not going to be singing the Fields of Athenry!

Hi Muppet I've a confession to make I don't know the words to Fields of Athenry and My Dirty Old Town has got Rust as well. We had a meeting and decided on using an Open Mike to give the quieter and more refind singers like yourself a chance to be heard. In the End to use or not to use PA will be a personal choice and there to gently lift the sound leval.

I don't seem to have seen you for ages Muppet so it will be nice to see you at Holmfirth Festival of Folk

Have a great time in Madrid and don't worry about the lightning Air Traffic Controllers strike! The Baggage Handlers will have diverted your luggage it to Holmfirth so you can just come straight here!

Just in case you do manage to get airborne you will need your Rain Coat as you know the Rain in Spain falls mainly..

Sorry Cath I wasn't recomending finding free camping. It is after all illegal and not very safe as it has no security! Far better to have Alison look after you please give her all the help over the weekend you can.

In response to the camping query - as we don't 'do' tickets apart from the odd concert and ceilidh all you have to do is fill in the form on the web site and book your spot. It isn't expensive so don't go looking to find free places!
I think we have booked the session at the pool to use the showers as before on Saturday tea time but you can check that with Alison when you book.
And we do have Free Sandwiches this year.

Holmfirth Festval of Folk is a mainly Free Festval however you do need to help to pay for the use of the Campsite and its Security. Many take a different route and camp for free nearby but with out the benifit of a Loo water and if possible showers. All can purchase shower only tickets from the Swimming Baths. However please check the times when this facilility is available! Warning space is limited on the campsite so book early and Check out The Official Holmfirth Festival Website. Is that ok Mr Happy?

I have just had a Phone call from Janet and she has told me that an area will be cordoned off in the Car Park for scooters and Zimmer Frames. She also asks that patrons to John's singaround would refrain from keeping a spare glass to put their false teeth in whilst singing. Not that there will be a shortage of glasses! But because they tend to get jammed in the glass washer if they end up being left behind.

When I asked John Honiwell at the Cleckheaton Folk Club if he would run the singer round at the Elephant and Castle from 3pm on the Saturday I also asked him for some Blurb. He said that I should write it for him. I warned him that this was just not a good idea, as I would probably tell everyone about his goings on at his Old Peoples Home. But he insisted so here is like what I wrote!

John Honiwell was born at a very early age in Yorkshire and he has been on the West Yorkshire Folk circuit for more years than he can remember. I have been told that in his youth he was well know for his love of Sheep and would spend many a happy hour on the Moors. Now an avid Bird fancier he is a resident in one Cleckheaton's many Retirement Homes for Bewildered Gentle Folk. Where he is a leading light amongst the community giving up his time to organize concert parties for the other residents.

On concert party nights, which sometimes go on till well after eight, his ready wit delights the Old and Older alike. After the Concerts it is not unusual for the Homes Care Staff to have to go round every High Seat Chair with a Hair Dryer. We are Lucky to have been given permission for John to be allowed out to run the singaround in the Elephant on Saturday Afternoon from 3 pm onwards.


He will be assisted by his Nurse who will be keeping an eye out for him as part of his ASBO waver and passing him his medication.

There is no charge for this event however we would encourage all to give generously to the hard working team of Volunteers who will be passing round the collection boxes.

Although it's a good rule not to respond to veiled threats! I apologise to someone I will not name that I seemed to have stuck a raw nerve with in another thread with my comments, made n defence of Dave Kidman, regarding others who have used multiple personalities to promote themselves. So again I apologise to you all (I personally have lost count of the number of names you have use) your Mudcat name is at the time of writing.

Should I die before Holmfirth Festival of Folk I shall have my body put on Ice and then placed on the Pool Table in the Elephant and Castle. I maybe unable to buy you a drink but you should feel free to use as much of the Ice as you wish to keep your Beer cold.

I am apologising now in advance for drinking too much great Beer in the Elephant and Castle and generally enjoying my self during the Holmfirth Festival of Folk.

My only excuses are the great music the hot weather and the need to keep out of the sun. Bruce Ballie is also to blame by leading me astray during the laid-back Open Mike sessions on Friday and Saturday Night.

Why and Open Mike Session I hear you cry? Well the choice is yours but it was decided as we would once more have the use of the large room. Using a PA would be a good way of us being able to leave the door open to the Bar so that we could involver the whole Pub in the festival. It also gives the many fine and softer singers a chance of a hearing.

Not all the sessions will be using PA John Honiwell will be running a more traditionally formatted singaround on Saturday Afternoon from 3pm to around 7pm.

This will be the third year that The Elephant and Castle's, Landlady Janet, has after a considerable gap become once again an official venue. That said she has always made her customers and Folk Festival goers most welcome. We have had some great nights in the Elephant and Castle, I blame that lot from Barnsley and there friends.

So come along and pay the Elephant and Castle a visit bring your instrument and voice along! I'm sorry to say that Ray Padgett is not very well so I am going to ask Lucy Stocks to lead the Wibberly Wobberly Walking workshop back to the campsite this year.
