Subject: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: katlaughing Date: 26 Apr 11 - 03:51 PM I looked for a youtube videos of pets thread, but didn't find one, so here ya go, for starters: Cats Playing Patty-cake and what they said! |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: GUEST Date: 26 Apr 11 - 04:05 PM I love silly animal videos. But as an animal lover I often see people posting things where *we* are having fun at the animal's expense. This is a lovely idea for a thread Katlaughing, and that pattycake video was hilarious, but may I just respectfully request that posters to this thread consider whether the animals in their funny pics and vids are happy? Distressed animals are not "funny" IMO! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: gnu Date: 26 Apr 11 - 05:07 PM Guest... indeed. I am disgusted by many vids in which the camera should be put down and the animal(s) helped. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: katlaughing Date: 26 Apr 11 - 05:34 PM Guest "lively?" couldn't agree with you more. Pets with rotten owners who don't keep their pets from getting into trouble should have their pets taken by the humane society, imo. I will not watch any vids where it seems any animal is in trouble and, in fact, would report it to youtube as abuse, imo. Love that one, bobad. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: Genie Date: 17 May 11 - 09:32 PM I love the kitty patty-cake video! Yes, some of the "funny" animal (and human) videos are ones where the participants probably aren't having any fun and may even be hurt. But when you catch the animal in natural, non-harmful behavior & just put captions on it, there's no abuse involved. YouTube and ICanHazCheezburger.com both have lots of animal videos like that. Most of the ones linked to here are like that. Thanks. Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 18 May 11 - 02:38 PM I agree with you, Genie. The cats in the patty-cake video are simply engaging in normal sparring behavior. Kind of like kids bickering. The human voices simply cracked me up. How do they summon up the lingo and the tone of young guys arguing so fast and so spontaneously? |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: gnu Date: 30 Nov 11 - 03:11 PM Great vid Becca. You know the old joke about "How do porcupines mate?". Well the answer might be true but my answer is "Audibly, soft at first and rythmically rising to VERY loudly over about five minutes, ending in a long single "crescendo". Then, silence for five minutes and then they wake you up again." As soon as I heard that porky in the vid I was immediately reminded of one night up Kent County. And the porky in the vid was NOT loud at all. I finally had to get dressed to go outside my trailer and tell them to move along. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: katlaughing Date: 30 Nov 11 - 04:29 PM Jim, if it has, I missed it. Thanks! I posted this earlier, but see it didn't take: Oskar the Blind Kitten with his first toys. The porcupine is a doll, but I thought the sounds were dubbed in. Maybe not, eh, gnu? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: gnu Date: 30 Nov 11 - 06:38 PM No way kat. That is what a porcupique sounds like. They have many vocalizations... as smart as a pig... maybe smarter. Just as tastey, even moreso if they have been eating on maple and poplar trees. But, they really wreak havoc on trees when they get old. A sow can live a long time and when old and with health problems she can destroy many trees in one night. It's sad. What do you do? Do you allow your trees to be destroyed or... it's sad. I had an old guy ask me to take an old sow out for him... he used to feed her and she was more or less a pet... sad stuff. But, it was his trees or her. She had to go. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: katlaughing Date: 30 Nov 11 - 07:51 PM I had no idea, Gary, thanks for letting me know. Too bad the old sow couldn't have been moved. It seems really unfair to have fed her, made her a pet, and then have her destroyed. Wonder if there are any porcupine rescue groups around. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Nov 11 - 09:23 PM There's a line in Bill Staines' song A PLACE IN THE CHOIR that says "the porcupine talks to himself." I remember him explaining this line by describing the peculiar vocalizations of a porcupine. This is the first time I've actually heard one. I've only 2 or 3 times seen porcupines in the wild. I didn't know anyone ever tamed one. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: gnu Date: 01 Dec 11 - 03:39 PM kat... "unfair"... well, fact is, most farmers will just shoot a porky on site on accounta they know that porkies can get outta hand and ruin a lotta trees. I think it was nice that this old guy let them chew up his trees and even fed a poor old sow in bad health. BUT, when she started messin up a LOTTA trees every day, he had to do something or the price he could get fer his farm when he had to sell would have been less. Perhaps I should explain. It takes a lotta bark to feed a big sow. If she can't climb, she eats all the bark off the butt to as high as she can reach standing on her back legs... and goes to the next tree. Healthy porkies climb up the tree and eat the bark and soft branches. The climbers can actually help out by "pruning" trees. But a sow on the ground is better as fertilizer in the ground. Yup... it's sad but there it is. Animal lovers... do NOT read beyond this point... seriously... don't. I told the old lad I would take her up in the woods. He said, "The ravens and yotes will eat her." I said I would bury her. He looked at me sternly and said, "Bury her? Hell, no. Clean her and I'll make stew." I said, "No, if you wanna do it, fine." I buried her. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fun Animal Videos- cats & patty-cake From: ChanteyLass Date: 18 Mar 12 - 11:50 AM Jim, my friends had a cat who drank running water by twisting her head and sticking her tongue into the streaming water. The cat in the video could have taken lessons. The otter and dog video was amazing. I wonder if they met as youngsters. Becca, I wonder if the kitten could tell that the dog's body language showed it wanted to play rather than attack. All three videos delighted me. |
