Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Ed T Date: 05 May 11 - 07:10 PM ""It usually happens around or just after sundown, but earlier when it's overcast or rainy outside."" Except, when you wake up with a dachshund sleeping on your face! Then, there is twilight to consider? |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Little Hawk Date: 05 May 11 - 07:14 PM Dachshunds are happy to sleep just about anywhere. ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: JohnInKansas Date: 05 May 11 - 07:29 PM The legal difinition of "when it's dark" in many US places is "one half hour after sundown." This is the time when "headlights" on vehicles must be turned on (and working). It's also the cutoff time for shooting for most game seasons, although some require you to quit at sunset. In most cases, it is permissible to go fishing in the dark, however. John |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Ed T Date: 05 May 11 - 07:46 PM As tro doing things (illegal) in the dark: Most parks close at dusk, because it is not easy to uphold the law in such places in the dark. Parks attract people who do things in besides slide on the playground equipment (i.e. use drugs). It may not be illegal to "make out" in your car after dark? (However, it may constitute a lewd act if you make out in public without a partner, aka George Michael). But, it may be be illegal to be at a park after a certain time of night? Beside that, it's probably not good for the car upholstery. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Bat Goddess Date: 05 May 11 - 08:57 PM I'm just thrilled that for the past week or so, there is still daylight in the sky when I leave work at 8 PM (Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA). Tonight, when I got home around 8:45 (20 miles west and through a whole bunch of road construction), it was dark but not dark dark -- in other words, I didn't need a light to get from the car, up the steps on the deck and into the house. Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Ebbie Date: 05 May 11 - 11:22 PM Unless you live on the equator, dark is not synonymous (sp?) with sunset. As Kansas Juan said, it occurs about a half hour later. So in Juneau, in southeastern Alaska, sunset today is just at 9:00 and it will get dark about 9:30. Tomorrow morning it will get daylight about 4:30 and the sun will rise about 5 o'clock. Soon we won't get full dark until about 12 o'clock and it will be getting light again about 2:30. In fact, our July 4th fireworks are set off the night before at midnight- because that's as dark as it's going to get. By the first week of August the stars will return. Until then, the sky is about the shade of stone-washed blue jeans and it's too light to see the stars. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 06 May 11 - 05:56 AM In Bristol coming up for 9.00 pm but last night it seemed light at 10 a sure sign that summer is on it's way. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 06 May 11 - 06:10 AM same time on the clock as Shanghaiceltic - but 2 hours earlier as we are on Eastern Australian Time & he is on Western Australian Time sandra in sydney |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 06 May 11 - 07:35 AM I used to have a tidal prediction program for most of the world's ports that included daylight and twilight in the backgound display of the tidal heights. Depending upon time of year and latitude the twilight varies quite a bit more than you might expect. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: gnu Date: 06 May 11 - 07:59 AM "In most cases, it is permissible to go fishing in the dark, however." Here, salt water yes, fresh water no. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 06 May 11 - 08:53 AM It's legal to hunt raccoons here after dark, but they can only be taken using a single-shot .22 or single-shot .410 shotgun. If the game warden catches you with anything else he assumes you're really after deer. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Ed T Date: 06 May 11 - 09:00 AM GUEST,Bill D Interesting site, especially if you click on the calendar. Whats the deal with the DST (daylight Saving Time) to the left? For Toronto, Canada it indicates sunrise is 8:33 am. Does it signify something else? Surely LH is out of the dark much earlier than that each day? |

Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Bill D Date: 06 May 11 - 09:29 AM Dunno, Ed T... I just found that site. I used it to calculate my current sunset. I DO have downloadable programs which show the times, but I wanted to offer a place for those who almost never download & install programs. I assume there are others. ☺ There are ALWAYS others.... |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Rapparee Date: 06 May 11 - 09:44 AM It's always dark here in my cramped little cell under the sub-basement. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Ebbie Date: 06 May 11 - 10:36 AM Rap lost not only his eyesight but his very eyes some time ago. Pity, really. |
Subject: RE: BS: What time does it get dark where u live From: Bill D Date: 06 May 11 - 10:39 AM Them liberries have many dark corners... when I worked a semester at the old library at Washington Univ. in St. Louis, we occasionally shelved old periodicals in the sub-basement annex! really....honest. |
