Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Rose of Inchicore From: MartinRyan Date: 06 May 11 - 05:47 AM Can't say I remember hearing it. There's a reference to it HERE ascribing it to one Mick Fitzgerald. The same reference turns up elsewhere on a simple Google. Regards |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Rose of Inchicore From: michaelr Date: 06 May 11 - 10:46 AM Some info on the author here. Might be a starting point. He's written some good ones, like "All our Trades are Gone" (covered by June Tabor) and "Rathdrum Fair". |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Rose of Inchicore From: GUEST,Martin Dardis Date: 06 May 11 - 03:45 PM Thanks for the link to his website, he's a great story teller. I had to share one of his stories about life in an a href="http://www.mickafitzgerald.com/short_stories.htm">Irish Session I had a great laugh, and many of the musicians who come here will really enjoy it. |

Subject: RE: LYR ADD: The Pride of Inchicore- M. Fitzgerald From: maeve Date: 14 Sep 12 - 04:05 PM One lovely line harvested from the sound samples: "For me heart is cultivated by the Pride of Inchicore" Mick Fitzgerald and the Bacha Trio recorded "The Pride of Inichicore" on their "Streetwise" album. on A sound excerpt by Mick Fitzgerald and the Bacha Trio is here And another snippet is here: http://new.allcelticmusic.com/music/f449652a-c422-11e0-b0f1-12313d02ceaa/Streetwise.html Mr. Fitzgerald's website is here http://www.mickafitzgerald.com/site/ (I did not find the lyrics there.) One reviewer commented that "the Pride of Inchicore makes you wonder why anyone would need to stray from the banks of the Camac in search of female pulchritude" http://www.fatea-records.co.uk/magazine/MickFitzgerald.html |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Rose of Inchicore (Mick Fitzgerald) From: MartinRyan Date: 14 Sep 12 - 04:32 PM Mind you, if I remember correctly, most of the Camac is underground - and the rest none too salubrious! Re gards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Rose of Inchicore (Mick Fitzgerald) From: Fergie Date: 14 Sep 12 - 09:29 PM Hi Martin, the Camac flows past O'Farachain's back yard and in the summer when I was visiting his house to check on progress of the repair work being undertaken to remedy the damage caused by the flooding of his basement when the Camac overflowed it's banks, what did I see running along the bottom of the stream, but a pair of dippers busily turning stones and pebbles. It was a sight that I hadn't seen anywhere near Dublin for years. Most of the Camac runs in a culvert, but it is still a living breathing river as it runs through Inchicore. Ferg |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE PRIDE OF INCHICORE (Mick Fitzgerald) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Nov 14 - 12:50 PM Here's my transcription from Spotify. The only difficult part was the place names, but I think I got those nailed down, too. I inserted links for the curious. THE PRIDE OF INCHICORE As sung by Mick Fitzgerald and The Bacha Trio on "Streetwise" (2011) Well, here I am in Dublin town as happy as can be. The angels up above the clouds are watching over me. I know they are, for now I feel more happy than before, Since I met with lovely Martha, the pride of Inchicore. Her cheeks they are a rosy red, her eyes a lovely brown, And upon her lily-white shoulders, her jet-black hair flows down, And every day I meet her, I love her more and more, For me heart is captivated by the pride of Inchicore. Clondalkin boasts of beauty, and I'd say it is well it can, For there are lovely ladies from Ballyfermot to Oldbawn. Oh, that may be, but I do swear there's none I fancy more Than me own sweet lovely Martha, the pride of Inchicore. And 'tis fare thee well, sweet Martha; my ship is bound to leave, But until I'm in your arms again, my heart would surely grieve, And when this war is over, 'tis then I'll turn once more For to share me joys and me sorrows with the pride of Inchicore. |
