BS: Vacuum sealer uses?

I put my paint brushes in Ziplock freezer bags and tape em shut with electrical tape and they are good all summer without cleaning them. However, a large brush I forgot to clean last fall is about half stiff. If I had a vacuum sealer I wouldn't be out a buck right now.

What else could one vacuum seal?

I've heard of vacuum pumps that have uses for more than one paint brush!

Take it to work some day when a co-worker is out of town. Individually vacuum seal every item in his office or cubicle and put them all back exactly where you found them. Be sure to leave a sign saying "SEALED FOR YOUR PROTECTION" on his desk.

Soooo... anyone use one? does it work well? would you buy a new one if your present one conked out? is it easy to clean? what brand and model would you recommend?

The biggest negative is that many of the kits sold require you to use the bags designed for them, and the bag is gonna cost you more than a decent new paint brush.

If you've got a good (expensive) brush it's worth cleaning it properly after each use. Or you can get one of the "brush restorer" solvents that will take just about any paint out of any dried up old brush. About $9 worth of "restorer" will do a good job on any $3 brush you've got, and might even clean two of 'em.

If you roll a good plastic bag around them, squeeze out as much air as you can, and fold the end around a couple of times, using the vacuum pump doesn't really add a lot to how long they'll stay wet enough. It just makes it a little more obvious if you poke a hole in the bag.

If you use vacuum on wet brushes, evaporation of the "wet" will eliminate most of the vacuum you created after a couple of days anyway.

It was only $5 at an outlet store. she spends a lot of time cleaning brushes when she paints.

I also bought a Ryobi paint sprayer/roller.
