I've been interested in model ships all my life, and I really appreciate a well-built one that looks like the real thing. This particular one is a very fine example, probably took at least 6 months to finish it, I would think. One of the neatest features of these big warships is the wooden decks, and if they are done right on a model they look marvelous. There there are the delicate railings! For that you have to used photoetched parts to get it to look in scale.

Note: Bismarck should end in "ck".

I had the USS Haven way back when I was about 10. That Bismarck replica is something else. Beautiful.

I did a great job one winter building a model of the HMS Surprise, plank by plank. However, when I got to the rigging I had to give up. It's not that difficult but it's terribly tedious. Maybe I'll get back to it some winter before I become completely blind.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

As a dyslexic I have made many ship models.

Have you ever seen the ship models in the DC museums?

No, but I'd like to...as the bishop said to the prostitute... ;-)
