In an apparent attempt to invoke audience laughter at a conference of Latino officials in San Antonio Thursday, the Texas governor compared a Hispanic appointee to the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission--Jose Cuevas--to popular tequila brand Jose Cuervo, suggesting he was the right man for the job because of his name.

I looked it up as best as I can tell cuevas is Spanish for caves. Cuervo translates to Raven or Crow.

So I imagine that a Spanish speaker would hear something like "We made Joe Caves the head of the Liquor board because caves sounds like Crow."

We need GOP contenders of this caliber!

As a former resident of Texas I can assure you that there's more where that came from. We just call him "The Haircut". He's a joke - but jokes get ellected nowadays.
