Subject: RE: Music In Inverness? From: Johnny J Date: 14 Jul 11 - 03:46 AM There's always music in Hootannany, Church street and the Market Bar although these places aren't necessarily for the faint hearted. Try The Clachnaharry Inn on a Thursday. It's a very informal session for both tunes and songs. |
Subject: RE: Music In Inverness? From: GUEST,Betsy Date: 14 Jul 11 - 06:51 PM Jeez I used to love the Market Bar in the 80's , Iain McGillivray , Ranald Smith , Bruce , even met the Proclaimer twins - who were on holiday. Some good sessions up stairs but that was a long time ago I'm afraid .The Folk club was in two places in my time there - The Heathmount and the ......fuck..... what did they call a hotel /restaurant at the top of a bank which specialised in steaks. Shit - what did they call it ? I won't sleep now................ |
Subject: RE: Music In Inverness? From: GUEST,Bobbie Date: 15 Jul 11 - 11:18 AM Do you fancy a good novel about Inverness, too? In 'Love, Revenge & Buttered Scones' http://is.gd/jT8HzO three hapless individuals dash off to the Scottish Highlands to find their destinies mysteriously entwined around a reading group in the Inverness public library. Twists, surprises, very funny, but also it has some quite dark & serious threads, and it keeps you guessing throughout. Readers' reviews on Amazon.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Music In Inverness? From: Johnny J Date: 15 Jul 11 - 12:26 PM Some of the other Inverness Folk Club venues included The Beaufort, The Albert and The Gellions. The latter was a few doors up from Rio Stakis "old World Inn"..now Johnny Foxes. Could it it be that one? The Gellions was the venue in the late sixties/early seventies although I believe the original home may be have been non licensed premises above Fraser McColl Ironmongers in Eastgate ....I'm not sure though. The club may also have been at The Corriegarth but I'm not sure about that. However, some of the regulars cetainly went there. Here's some memories for you, Betsy... http://www.mgillfolk.org.uk/bio/ |
