At my desk here at 10:33pm it's reading 90... In my cabin! My beagle is pissed. I was stunned to find no thread, or many songs about hot days. Did find this but mostly about fire.Hot Hot Hot Song List Got one. Cool Down by Cephas and Wiggins. And be careful everyone. People get cranky on hot days. |

Libraries, community centers, Salvation Army, YMCA are opening their doors to the homeless any who don't have air conditioning. The paper said spending as little as one hour in the a/c will help a person cope with the heat. That surprised and encouraged me. Max, I'm amazed at 104 where you live. I thought it would be cooler than out here on the plains. |

It is so hot that my tomatoes are not growing fruit. Tomatoes 'care' about the temperatures in the middle of the night. If it's too hot or too cool, the blossoms drop off without setting fruit. I've been out there spraying stuff called Blossom Set on the flowers, hoping to avoid that. I haven't had a home-grown tomato yet! This is unjust. |

I grew up north of Seattle, so I never feel like I'll get used to summers here in Texas, but my consolation is that the Texans are just as miserable as I am. I just know that it can be better somewhere else this time of year! Drink lots of fluids, wear a hat, drape a bandana on your head then anchor it there with your ball cap to keep the sun off your neck. Don't go out in it for more than a few minutes at a time (pace yourselves!), and plan to get up early in the morning to do any substantial work outside. I didn't realize this thread was here when I posted the Ann Miller song to the facebook page. I agree with Joe, that is one of the sexiest G-rated movies around! SRS |

One time, I tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I learned that hard way that this is not an advisable process. It's a hell of a thing to clean up. Now I'm in the Sierra foothills, 45 minutes outside Sacramento, and it's always 10 to 20 degrees cooler. Just now, I'm listening to a 2003 album by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason called Relax Your Mind.
