Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: GUEST,mg Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:31 PM Will do what he has to to save his children from various events of life. My heroes are the ones in Russia or former republic who raced into bullets to save their children in a school. Or the German and Norwegians who got into their boats to save the teens at the camp. Some were real women there of course. Or the men and women in SOmalia who walk days in the desert to get food for their children. Most of the other things are fluff. mg |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:35 PM Yes, mg, real women do that stuff too. You're talking about courage, love, and responsibility. I'd say that any man or woman who displays courage, love, and responsibility can be called a "real" man or woman. |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:45 PM So it would seem that a 'real' man or woman is, putting it simply, a good person? |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:46 PM Yes. A good person, and a person of strong character. |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:48 PM A real man has one of these!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 01 Aug 11 - 05:57 PM Do you think such people (either men or women) are hard to find, or are most of us 'real' men or women? In other words, are truly 'good' people rare? |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Aug 11 - 06:00 PM I think that all people have the potential to be truly good people, Eliza. They need to become inspired to do so. Some can do it on their own, but many need some support from others or very good leadership to do it. Adversity can often bring the greatness out of people, whereas too much luxury and indulgence tend to diminish it (in most). |

Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Midchuck Date: 02 Aug 11 - 11:35 AM Obviously, one who would rather see the Country bankrupt than compromise his political principals the least little bit. (Note that this allows either liberals or conservatives an equal chance to be Real Men.) P. |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Aug 11 - 12:39 PM It has far less to do with political principles, Midchuck, than it has to do with trashing the other party. You know, the one with all the "evil" people in it? ;-D Both parties play that game, and they play it constantly. To no useful effect, I might add, because they are both tragically misguided. |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Darowyn Date: 02 Aug 11 - 01:26 PM This definition comes from the Women's Aid organisation in the UK. They are organising a Real Man March in the county this month. I have been invited, and if I go I will get a T Shirt saying "I'm a real man", and my wife will get one that says, "I'm a woman who loves a real man" Here are the key indicators of realness:- A 'Real Man doesn't hit, abuse or control A 'Real Man' doesn't hurt anyone he loves A 'Real Man' makes a difference I'm Supporting the 'Real Man' Campaign for Women's Aid, standing up to end violence against women and children. Personally, I'm not at all keen on violence against men either! Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Aug 11 - 01:33 PM Violence is a dramatic demonstration of having failed utterly to find a sensible solution to a perceived problem. |

Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Amos Date: 02 Aug 11 - 02:07 PM Real men are bipeds, of the species Home sap. sap. of the masculine gender. They typically have lower voices, slightly more hair on their bodies, and different reproductive plumbing than the female of the species, and their brain wiring is a little more simple in some areas. If you wonder whether something is a real man or not, check for the characteristics above and also look for a pulse. The body temperature should be in the range of 95 to 104 deg. F. A |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Desert Dancer Date: 02 Aug 11 - 03:10 PM A real man is a woman's best friend. He will never let her down. He will comfort her after a bad day. He will inspire her to do things she never thought she could do. He will enable her to express her deepest emotions. He will enable her to be confident, sexy, seductive and invincible ... No wait. ... Sorry. I'm thinking of wine. It's wine that does all that shit. Never mind... I wish I could take credit for this (it came via Facebook yesterday). ~ Becky in Long Beach |

Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Penny S. Date: 02 Aug 11 - 04:29 PM I would like a campaign for real men (have been thinking about it for a while, along with a partner group called "Not Half"), but I don't think it's the best thing to do to define it by what real men don't do. Though one of my criteria was that they don't demand that real women alter themselves to look like porn "actresses". (Soon no-one will understand why it was peculiar for Ruskin to reject his wife.) Perhaps "Real men celebrate real women". But it isn't just the relationship thing. Perhaps "Real men do what needs doing." Be it racing towards the noise of gunfire, or learning to use the washing machine. (I think there's a card in Oxfam which is captioned (roughly) "When you've mastered the washing machine, you can be called a man.") And I remember seeing an impressive film of an astronomy society building a telescope and installing it in their observatory. Maybe "Real men work together to solve problems." Penny |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 11 - 04:33 PM Penny... "Real men work together to solve problems." Cool. And I mean that even when real men (read "people") are forced to work together to dispense physical "justice" if required. |

Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: GUEST,mg Date: 02 Aug 11 - 06:22 PM You know it when you see it and any woman so fortunate as to have one or more in her life is pretty darn lucky. Although quite a lot of times it is dormant and true colors come out in dire circumstances. I don't think it is the same as being a good or decent man, which is more than sufficient for a man to be. mg |
Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 02 Aug 11 - 06:34 PM That is what the witty remarks are for. The bickering just gilds the lily. |

Subject: RE: BS: What is a real man? From: Joe_F Date: 02 Aug 11 - 09:08 PM If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or, being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"; If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run - Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son! |
