Subject: BS: I knew Google made a few dollars but... From: gnu Date: 24 Aug 11 - 03:36 PM ... this kinda boggles the mind. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Google Inc, which has agreed to pay $500 million for accepting ads from Canadian pharmacies to sell in the United States, said in a statement that it should not have allowed the ads in the first place. The U.S. Justice Department, which announced the settlement on Wednesday said that it represented all of Google's revenues from Canadian pharmacy advertisements and was one of the largest ever in the United States. Google said in a brief comment that it had banned advertising of prescription drugs in the United States. The announcement was made in a February 2010 blog post. "However, it's obvious with hindsight that we shouldn't have allowed these ads on Google in the first place," the statement said. |

From: Bill D Date: 24 Aug 11 - 03:46 PM It seems the process of selling ad was sorta automated, so those wanting to sneak in ads for really illegal stuff figured out how. Google admits they should have monitored it better. Still... there are perfectly good Canadian drugs that are much cheaper than we have to pay... and there SHOULD be a way to acquire them. |

Subject: RE: BS: I knew Google made a few dollars but... From: gnu Date: 24 Aug 11 - 03:56 PM "really illegal stuff"? HEY! Canuck pharmacies? LEGAL stuff. The big companies are screwing Yanks AND Canucks. Oh, yeah, right, sorry... it's illegal for Canucks to sell legal drugs to Yanks because we don't have FREE TRADE. No free trade for anything the big Yank Corporations wanna charge Yanks and arm and a leg for. Like drugs and lumber and potatoes and... Free trade? More like rough trade... up our collective asses on both sides of the FRIENDLY border. Go to Mexico... even cheaper drugs there and no prescription required. |

From: GUEST,Jon Date: 24 Aug 11 - 04:00 PM I'm not quite sure what it means but Google's "Enterprise Value" is currently quoted at $134 billion. --- I'm not really sure what to think about them either. They sort of seem like the nice guys amongst the computer giants but nice and big money? I don't suppose I'll ever be sure about that.. |

Subject: RE: BS: I knew Google made a few dollars but... From: Bill D Date: 24 Aug 11 - 04:41 PM Google 'seems' to have the attitude "we are gonna do good stuff for you whether you like it or not"...and they are often right. But power tends to corrupt. I hope they mostly resist... |

Subject: RE: BS: I knew Google made a few dollars but... From: GUEST,999 Date: 26 Aug 11 - 10:05 AM IMO, people make the mistake of thinking of this (Google wealth) as being real money. It isn't supported by gold in a reserve, or diamonds, or chromium, or, or, or. It ain't money, simply another form of promissory note. If the promise should come due, wtf will the money come from? Fact is, it won't. Banks are doing the same thing. So are businesses. |
