Subject: threads viewed From: Mo the caller Date: 25 Sep 11 - 03:09 PM The title of threads I have read used to change colour, if no new messages had been posted. Now this sometimes does not happen. What's up? |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 25 Sep 11 - 03:14 PM Yeh, happens to me too... |
|
Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 25 Sep 11 - 03:15 PM ...like right now, with this very thread... |
|
Subject: RE: threads viewed From: MGM·Lion Date: 25 Sep 11 - 03:38 PM Well, I've just read it and checked back ~~ & it has obligingly changed colour... ~M~ |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 25 Sep 11 - 03:46 PM Blushing, probably ;-) After I read the last post and went outside again, the title obligingly changed to purple. Then I popped into another thread for a sec, came back out and it had gone back to pristine blue, though there were no new posts. This is only an intermittent occurrence, but it does seem to be getting more mittent by the moment. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Mo the caller Date: 25 Sep 11 - 04:05 PM Happens to some but not all of the threads when I start the compuyer in the morning. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Nigel Parsons Date: 25 Sep 11 - 04:14 PM It may depend on whether you are going to the list of threads by selecting "Lyrics & knowledge" at the top of the page. This should refresh the list. If you are just clicking on "back" then your browser takes you back to the threads list you saw before viwing the current discussion, and this will not always be updated to show you have read the thread. If in doubt, when on the list of threads, click the 'refresh' button & this should give you the most up-to-date list, with threads marked as read Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 25 Sep 11 - 04:41 PM Nope. Doesn't work for me. I refresh with the button, with the L&K link, with the bookmark in my browser bar... and nowt. It sometimes turns purple for awhile, but then it sneaks back to blue, the blaggard. Happens on my other puter too. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed From: Gurney Date: 25 Sep 11 - 07:42 PM The oddity for me is that the highlighting happens on a thread that I have read, but not one that I've posted on. |
|
Subject: RE: threads viewed From: GUEST,Jon Date: 25 Sep 11 - 08:36 PM Gurney, it works on your browser knowing visited links and counting the messages posted to a thread. (&messages=XXX in the URL) When you post to a thread. messages will have a new count. Your browser will see this as a new link rather than a visited link. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Effsee Date: 25 Sep 11 - 10:21 PM I've had the same thing for the last couple of weeks...sometimes ok, but other times the thread when clicked on turns to cyan( I think that's the proper term ), then reverts to blue on the back button. Bloody annoying. Thought it was just my 'pooter, but glad to hear it's just not me! |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Don Firth Date: 26 Sep 11 - 01:43 AM Just a theory, but— I find that if I access a thread by clicking on the thread title, it changes color from blue (link) to black. But when I come back to it, if it's blue again, I know a new message has been added. However, if it's a long thread (over 50) and I access it by clicking on the right hand column (number of messages) and go to the latest page, the thread title doesn't change color. Could this be it? Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Mo the caller Date: 26 Sep 11 - 02:35 AM No, that's not it. Usually if you click on the number or the d that changes colour but not the title. But I hardly even do that. The other odd thing is when I click on Mudcat on my 'favourites' list it takes me to the titles list as it was when I last opened Mudcat. Sometimes but maybe not always. Not sure about the 'back' button - i'll check now. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Mo the caller Date: 26 Sep 11 - 02:36 AM It's not the back button. I opened this thread again and went back and it was purple. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: MGM·Lion Date: 26 Sep 11 - 02:44 AM Sometimes one thing, sometimes the other. The system doesn't seem to work consistently, however it is supposed to operate. But I must say that, even in my quiet retired happily-married existence, there are elements which bug me more and cause me greater concern than these colour vagaries, at which I just shrug & turn to the next item on the agenda. ~M~ |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 26 Sep 11 - 05:22 AM The "address" of a thread, e.g. http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=140471&messages=20, includes the number of messages. This ensures that when you click on it, your browser will fetch it anew if a message has been added. Purple usually means that the browser has it in its cache - with the given number of messages. However, our Mudelfs and Joeclones are constantly removing spam messages (thanks!). This changes the "address" of the thread as well, so your browser will display it blue when refreshing the list. Whenever I visit Mudcat, I copy the "time stamp" of the newest thread to an all-purpose text file. I check the threads from the top of the list down to the first item predating my last visit. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Tootler Date: 26 Sep 11 - 10:42 AM I find if you click on the "Home" link that is under each message, the thread title turns purple but if you click on "Lyrics and Knowledge" then it does not - in fact all the recent visited thread links go back to blue. Similarly if you visit your personal page when you come back all the visited links have reverted to unvisited status. I have often wondered why this difference. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Bill D Date: 26 Sep 11 - 12:01 PM I hope most are aware that YOU can decide in what colors the various situations will be displayed.... and whether they are underlined or not. You can, of course, specify what fonts are used also. It is fun to look thru the settings and preferences and make your browser behave as YOU wish. |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Mo the caller Date: 27 Sep 11 - 10:01 AM Thanks Grishka. That makes sense. Bill, isn't life complicated enough already? |

Subject: RE: threads viewed-why don't they change colo(u)r? From: Bill D Date: 27 Sep 11 - 10:50 AM Life is LESS complicated when you can choose how certain parts of it work. I even use different 'skins' to make different browsers immediately identifiable. And spell checkers and security programs and music organizers,,,etc. The only complexity is getting used to how to DO the controlling...kinda like sorting your closet or cleaning the garage- tedious to do, but wonderful after it's done. |
