Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: BTNG Date: 16 Nov 11 - 10:15 AM There are some people who feel the need to rush around at high rates of speed all day, I never could understand that concept, or as my mother was wont to say, "going nowhere fast". |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST,999 Date: 16 Nov 11 - 10:10 AM I think he's doing stuff with the server. Since I don't read too fast anyway, it's working fine. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Barb'ry Date: 16 Nov 11 - 10:05 AM Mainly ok here as well - mind you, I'm so used to slow speeds I probably can't tell the difference! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: BTNG Date: 16 Nov 11 - 10:05 AM one adapts to the hamster on the wheel method...oh a now tell us something we don't know |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 16 Nov 11 - 10:02 AM Very mixed today, long wait for pages to load at times, sometimes it will just time out but at other times all is just fine. So if there's a problem, it's not a really consistent one. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: katlaughing Date: 16 Nov 11 - 09:58 AM Or, over the Rocky Mountains...slow on the Western Slope, too. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Nov 11 - 09:43 AM Veeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrry slow again at the moment. Maybe it's the trip across the pond |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: johncharles Date: 18 Oct 11 - 07:14 AM It is not just mudcat. Everything seems to be slow at the moment in the Uk. Several friends have noticed the same thing over the last 3/4 days. john |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 18 Oct 11 - 12:42 AM make a regrettable decision - does this mean less Mudcatting? dunno if I can let go, but I'll try sandra |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Max Date: 18 Oct 11 - 12:23 AM Hmmm, I coulda swore... must have been removed this from the Mudcat FAQ. We had a policy on this... let me look in the archives... Ah, there it is. WHEN MUDCAT IS DOWN: a) make a regrettable decision but not regret it b) jump your husband/wife and do it "saucy" (I know you're old, NO EXCUSE!) c) write a song AND d) let go (of all shame, anger and guilt) forever. (yes, it's really that easy) Also, I like MY women aggressive, mildly intoxicated, impulsive, and forgiving. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST Date: 17 Oct 11 - 08:36 PM You will notice a "longer path" "Ping" and "Trace Route" have added a couple more "hops." Google is transfiguring Recent news articles explain a fragile-thread that is ALl but GOREd. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Max Date: 17 Oct 11 - 07:35 PM It's a much bigger problem from where I sit. We lost our most powerful machine in the crash last month, and are very near to 100% capacity without her. Watching my resource monitor lately gives me the same feeling as when my kids are sick. I know, I'm a giant nerd... you have no idea... Been trying to reallocate resources, but haven't been able to make a dent. We're maxed out. I ordered a little hardware to get our whole database into RAM which should speed things up a great deal. Couple of days and she'll be snappy. I'm holding off on the purchase of a new server, for now, because mudcat 2.0 is on the horizon and relies on a completely, and I mean 100%, different schema than we have now. Strengthening the current infrastructure may not serve the next. Whole lot of action here at the cabin of solitude --the physical home of mudcat.org, Max, Merle and the monkeys. Wish I could fill you in on what's to come, but it has been shown that you can't be trusted. :) ...exciting times ahead to be sure. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST,MikeL2 Date: 17 Oct 11 - 03:53 PM hi I haven't changed anything and Mudcat's much quicker tonight. 9.0pm UK time. Cheers MikeL2 |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST, Richard Bridge on a different browser Date: 17 Oct 11 - 03:10 PM The improvement seems to have vanished. I think it might be traffic-related. If I'm having an insomniac prowl at 4 am I'll try again, but it's very slow right now (2010 UK time) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 16 Oct 11 - 05:42 AM Much more than that for me, even on a different server & puter 35 km away. It obviously varies. Long waits for every page-change. (And it didn't take this message the first time I tried to submit.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 16 Oct 11 - 05:14 AM Not so much slow, there's an about five second delay before the page pops up. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: JohnInKansas Date: 15 Oct 11 - 03:25 PM There was a report that Max had to make some emergency equipment substitutions so a "lesser server" might have something to do with it. Also, I first noticed a delay in responses a little after the most recent off-line event, so there may be "repairs in process." It looks to me like the bottleneck is in the server queue, since I get a rather longer "waiting for response from mudcat," message than usual; but the transmission speed seems normal once I get to the top of the lineup. That might be helped if "somma youze guys" would go away and reduce the traffic density, but that never worked when I suggested it to the drivers in the next lane on the Seattle freeways, so I suppose it's not worth even a finger salute. I haven't looked at what kind of traffic load has been hitting here, but the time-lag between posts looks fairly normal, indicating not much change(?). John |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 15 Oct 11 - 09:50 AM Yes, chronic here, for the past few days :-( Other sites are OK so it's not my connection (which is pretty good anyway). In fact it got so bad I had to abandon the Cat and go do some actual Work. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat sloooooooooooooow From: terrier Date: 15 Oct 11 - 09:35 AM As Midchuck says, it's been far slower in the past, but lately it's been running slow all the time.
