Subject: Lyr Add: DONEGAL DANNY and FAR AWAY IN AUSTRALIA From: Bobby O'Brien Date: 28 Apr 97 - 10:01 PM Hi! The words to "DONEGAL DANNY" are:
I remember the night when he came in from the wintry cold and damp,
CHORUS: So here's to those who are dead and gone,
Then in a voice that was hushed and low he said, "Listen and I'll tell you a tale:
"That fateful night in the wind and the rain, we set sail from Killybegs town.
"Then the storm had broke and it drove the boat to the rocks about 10 miles from shore.
But the raging sea was rising still as we struck out for the land,
Ever since that night I've been on the road travellin' and tryin' to forget FAR AWAY IN AUSTRALIA
"Sweetheart, I'm bidding you fond farewell," murmured a youth one day.
CHO: Far away in Australia soon will fate be kind
"Must we be parted?" his fairer one cried. "I cannot let you go."
"Whether in success or failure I will always be true.
Daily she waits at the old cottage gate, watching the whole day through, Hope it helped :) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Far Away in Australia From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Jul 13 - 10:48 PM You can hear a recording of the McNulty Family singing FAR AWAY IN AUSTRALIA at The Internet Archive; it is item #18 on the menu on that page. The recording is apparently from Decca (USA) 12256 made 11-Jun-1942. The British Library and the State Library of Queensland have sheet music described thus: FAR AWAY IN AUSTRALIA Words by Charles Wilmott; music by Hermann E. Darewski London: Francis, Day & Hunter, ©1908. |
