Subject: BS: Bent Voicebox From: Melissa Date: 25 Oct 11 - 03:31 PM How long does it usually take for larnyx/trach/esoph to slide back where they belong after being clamped out of the way for neck surgery? My voice is not perking up as quickly as I think it should..neither volume or pitch control. It doesn't hurt, glottal flap thingy doesn't quite work like it ought to..but it all does seem to be getting better (veryvery slowly) I haven't been able to find anything to sort of gauge my progress against and thought I'd ask here where I know there is a LOT of experience with throat stuff. Thanks, M |

Subject: RE: BS: Bent Voicebox From: gnu Date: 25 Oct 11 - 04:45 PM Well, perhaps there is no set time period? Best thing to do is ask the docs that sliced ya up. They would have the best guess.... I *think*. Of course, it's a good question to ask here as well. Good luck with it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Bent Voicebox From: Melissa Date: 25 Oct 11 - 05:12 PM Gnu, Yeah, I did talk to my surgeon and he will refer me to whatever specialist seems appropriate if I need one..all I need to do to do that is let his office know. I just don't know how to tell whether I need to go, or whether I am impatient but healing ok. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong but I'd sure like to have some way of judging. I don't know anybody to ask how long their voice was obnoxious and haven't been around anybody who was recuperating from the same (or similar) surgery. I AM getting impatient about it. It's hard on me to not be able to carry on conversation or carry a tune, and I'm starting to get irritable about folks having a hard time understanding what I'm saying. It's not polite for me to get irritable about that! |
