Tickets make great Christmas presents. We keep bumping into people up here who say they are coming to next year's festival, some that haven't been before so it could be another sell out. Programme looks good so far. Poster available on website along with guests booked to date.

Please see website for up to date list of artists etc. Lots going on including a performance of the Navvy's Wife by John Ryan on Sunday evening and the storytelling might well be on a canal boat rather than a walk. I am now a bit remote from the organisers but I have been asked to keep you informed of progress from time to time so I am sure you will hear from me soon.Moira Furnace Folk Festival

Must be four or five years since we came up to Donisthorpe and did the rounds of some of the Lincolnshire clubs.

We're planning to come to the festival this year, looking forward to renewing some old acquaintances (Hi Lynne), and we'd like to make it a week long visit.

Could some kind person let me know what Folk Clubs (if any) will be operating through the second and third weeks of August, within about a twenty mile radius of Moira?

Backwoodsman - think you are thinking of a different Strumming Steve. Steve has got some youtube footage from last year's festival. just put in Steve Jackson at Moira Furnace and it should bring up quite a few clips. Aa far as I am aware he hasn't played in the Lincoln Area. He's now located in Leeds.

As far as I'm aware the Railway will be available for sessions etc. as it was last year, as will the Woodman. I'm a bit remote from the organising committee as I am now living near York but I am in regular touch with them so I will pass on any queries if you want me to. I will nudge the stewarding organiser but I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't been contacted yet.

Dave Earl and Brenda are both on the list of stewards for the 2012 Moira furnace Folk Festival. The stewarding organiser has had a family bereavement which has, understandably. meant that he has had to give priority to his family. He assures me that he will contact Dave and Brenda in the next few weeks and any other people who have registered an interest in being a steward.

There are still opportunities for more stewards so if you are interested please go to the website www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk and complete the steward application form.

This year I will be taking the Story Walk along the canal and telling tales of the early days of the canals [might even regale you with how I actually helped dig out the Ashby canal when I lived up there]BUT the really excellent news is that I will be accompanied by Ned Clamp and Patti Smith who will be playing tunes and singing songs connected with the canals. Hopefully this will be a very different session and we welcome all of you to join us with your own stories, songs and tunes of the canals.

I have scheduled the Mudgather from 2.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. but the room will not be programmed again until 6 p.m. so you could carry on the Mudgather until 5.45 p.m. if you want to.

Please advise me if you want me to put 2.30 to 4.30 in the programme or a later finish time.

Monologue Man, many thanks for thinking about the MudGather times!

Could we possibly re-jig the times to 3.30pm-5.30pm (preferably) or 3pm-5pm on the Saturday, whichever works best for your programming? That way we won't miss too much of the afternoon concerts, hopefully!

We would make sure we were cleared up in time for your next programmed event in that lovely room.

Looks like we've got a very nearly full workshop programme. Song writing, songs for young people, guitar, two harmony singing workshops, spoons and bodhran. Bram Taylor will be running a big jam session on Saturday morning and there will be a canal side story walk with music and song. We've got a couple of presentation style workshops, one on poaching illustrated with songs and another on the monologue so there should be something for everyone. And before you start that lot you can prepare yourself for the day with a bit of tai chi.And all this before you settle down for the concerts!

Well, me and Mrs G along with son, daughter-in-law and 2 mini-gnomes are coming. Son and D-I-L are not big folkies so we only bought 2 weekend tickets as I know they will attend the saturday night ceilidh while we grandson-sit. Aside from that I have bought 2 tickets for the Sunday 'Navvies Wife' concert, which I am really looking forward too and we have 2 camping permits so we are not all in the same tent! (Ok - Only 3 nights but someone would end up killing someone else...:-) ) I know Son and D-I-L have a couple of plans to go to other places and my sister lives close by so we weill visit her as well so I know we will probably have too much to do!

Can anyone recommend the 'musts' and, if possible, which sessions etc. don't require tickets as well? Things for mini-people to do would be good too - One is 3 years old and the other 19 months so I know someone will have to stay with them.

Cheers

Hi Mo

Right from the start this festival has clashed with the start of Whitby week. Its impossible to organise anything in the summer that doesn't clash with something else! Its not done the attendance figures at Moira any harm as more and more people seem to want to come every year. Quite a few do Moira Furnace and then travel up to Whitby on the Monday to catch the rest of the week, and several of us will be doing just that again this year! Cheers. Olga

Quick question though, is there a 'quiet' area this year? I recall that we disturbed some youngsters a couple of years ago.

Even packing up the tent in the rain this morning didn't put a damper on it--though I might revise that a bit once I get the darn thing out again to dry it off!

We missed the rain, having made a snap decision to leave yesterday afternoon when our gas cylinder spluttered to a halt. It seemed sensible at the time, and more so when the trip home at a steady sixty took just 2hrs 30mins (almost unheard of down M1/M25).

Thanks to everybody for the wonderful experience of our first Moira.

Great to see old friends, Lynne Tann Watson, Hilary and Dave and Julia, along with many others.

We thoroughly enjoyed a musical, if small, Mudgather, and the singaround on Saturday at the Railway.

Special thanks to the unfailingly cheerful and caring stewards, who were such a pleasant part of a first class festival.

See you all next year for sure!

Don, that was an even better decision seeing as how the M25 was seriously backed up today (1.5 hour delays)! Fortunately, we didn't have to go that far and the M1 to Luton/Dunstable was fine and fast.

Really enjoyed both of your contributions to the singaround, mudgather, and yours at Dave's workshop.

I still don't know who most of you are but the comments say it all. Sorry if the mudgather was a bit sparse but for a small event there was so much to see and do! Really pleased the session on Sunday night in the bar in the Railway went well. We genuinely intended to come but we had a massive family and friends barbecue and after the walking up and down site all weekend we chickened out and did a session in the beer tent which turned out to be really good (lots of silly stuff towards the end)Thanks to everyone who contributed in whatever way. It takes every one of you to make an event like this so good. Looking forward to next year already.

What a fabulous weekend, a huge thankyou to all the good people who have given us another successful and very special Festival with an excellent lineup!

I was very impressed with all the organisation and the fantastic work of the volunteers. Especially so to the guys looking after the campsite on Friday afternoon who knew exactly who I was an where a space had been saved for us after our long journey from Surrey - fantastic!!!

I'll post the 'name & shame' Mudgather Register when I have more time tomorrow, but I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. There may not have been many of us, but we made a good noise & had lots of chocolate!

I must confess that I didn't leave my feedback form so is there an address I can post it to? And for those who didn't pick up a feedback form, could one be printed from the website?

Hope everyone got home safely!

Too bad we had too leave early on the Saturday, right after playing our set with Bram Taylor. We had a boat to catch.
But what a great time we had!
The weekend before we played at Saltburn Folk Festival.
Since we've got ourselves some tentative bookings next July, we're not sure we can make it next year (We can't stay in England all summer :-( )

We had a great weekend but were so busy, we only managed one visit to the loft and didn't make the Mudgather so we didn't get to put names to faces. See you all next year!!

Guilty as charged M'Lady - I failed to attend the Mudgather ..... I offer humble apologies. I did not venture off the site (bar the shower block) .... what a lovely setting and excellent beers (and Red wine) :)) and food - and Port Hilary(?!). I'll be back (with La Kelly next time) and David will be keen to return too!?
Hx
