Subject: Just struck gold on Youtube From: frogprince Date: 14 Nov 11 - 10:24 PM stumbled on this purely by accident a few minutes ago . One link led to another, and bingo. Fortunately we can still enjoy what the gent has given us musically; best of all we still have him as a damn good man. |

Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 15 Nov 11 - 12:00 PM I want to thank the folks who posted this old stuff. As Mac Wiseman sang, "It's sweet to be remembered." |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 15 Nov 11 - 02:03 PM Great job Kendall on a great song! Speaking about other versions of the song Goebel Reeves yodelled when he recorded it. I don't think the yodelling added a thing but there were two other great verses that I had not heard before. I believe that they were the third and the last: Do not let your heart be troubled When the world calls you a bum For if your mother lives she loves you You'll always be your mother's son When you die and go to Heaven On every train that you will ride The hard-boiled brakeman and the hobo Sleep in peace there side by side |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 15 Nov 11 - 03:04 PM Reeves wrote it but I agree the yodeling did nothing for the song. In fact, it took away some of the poignancy. Kinda like yelling HEE HAW in the middle of Lorena. In later years I also sang those two verses. |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: Cool Beans Date: 15 Nov 11 - 03:04 PM Sweet! And he manages to play his guitar in a chair with arms! |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 15 Nov 11 - 03:28 PM Guest999 I take that as a supreme compliment. That my friend. I have to admit, I'm no Emmy Lou. Her rendition of Weary Hobo made me tear up thinking of my dear friend, Utah Phillips. |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 16 Nov 11 - 07:47 AM I can't say I was fond of her rendition, too much Emmy Lou. I like songs done straight where the singer is just the conductor, not trying to be a star at the expense of the song. That should draw some flak. |

Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: Rapparee Date: 16 Nov 11 - 09:18 AM Okay. Kendall's rendition was done at the expense of the song as well! Sitting in a chair with ARMS, playing a guitar in the best manner, sunglasses and either a Greek fisherman's cap or a beret (hard to picture the last), excellent phrasing and technique, never a false note...why, he's better than I am! But that's not admitting much, I guess. Okay, Mr. Morse -- was that enough flak? |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 16 Nov 11 - 08:21 PM define flak. |

Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 19 Nov 11 - 03:13 PM I got an email from a man in NY state who used to MC Bluegrass festivals. He asked if I had any CDs that he could play on his radio program. I believe he's in the Albany area, name is Bill Knowlton. |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: gnu Date: 19 Nov 11 - 04:14 PM White socks and white underwear. Take THAT to the bank! Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: kendall Date: 20 Nov 11 - 07:37 PM I'm mortified. |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: frogprince Date: 20 Nov 11 - 09:06 PM I ain't about to be mortified about white sox. A few years back I came accross some printed article claiming that synthetic fabric socks were healthier than cotton sox, especially for sweaty feet. I was in dress shirt and tie work at the time too, so I basically had a pile of black synthetic socks. At least 5 years ago now, my foot and shoe odor got to where it must have at least approached Spaw's gas odor problem. I wear white cotton sox now except for maybe weddings and funerals, and have little or no odor problem. I'd rather have people snickering than backing away and gagging. |
Subject: RE: Just struck gold on Youtube-Kendall/Weary Hobo From: GUEST,kendall Date: 21 Nov 11 - 07:27 AM I've never had a foot odor problem, so no need for white socks. Do you wear white socks after Labor Day? snicker.gauche' |
