Subject: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Bobert Date: 29 Nov 11 - 08:38 AM Well, well, well... Seems that there are 266 companies out there designing and building "personal drones" that will soon be working out details with the FAA to start flying these over the United States... Most will be used by the 16,000 state and local police departments... Hmmmmmmmm??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: JohnInKansas Date: 29 Nov 11 - 05:06 PM New York City Police already claim "more surveillance devices" than any other US locale (almost as many as London?), and have said that they have the capability (firepower) to bring down aircraft. They've fretted over their "shortage" of armored vehicles capable of taking heavy weapons fire. Their intelligence(?) systems are claimed (by the chief) to be "better than ... " (he named a couple of countries that might be embarrassing to some here). Given that Wall Street is in their town, one might wonder if they're planning a military takeover of the rest of us. ... Surveillance drones have been around long enough that there are lots of people capable of working up potentially useful designs in a few weeks, given a bit of cash and a decent small shop, and some lawnmower engines would work with little modification* for something with a few hundred miles range or loiter times of several hours. *Fairly extensive engine modifications would probably be helpful, but most of the parts are available, or easily made, if one knows the market and can decide on precisely what they want the machine to do. Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: gnu Date: 29 Nov 11 - 07:39 PM I know an engineer who works on such things. Fact is, they can be easily taken down but he says their video capability would allow police to determine who took them out as it can be uplinked in real time. Now don'tchya think TWO good ol boys can mess that up? I betchya ONE good ol boy could do it. I know one that could fuck up one a them hovering drones no sweat. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Bobert Date: 29 Nov 11 - 08:03 PM Ya'll thought I was making tis stuff up, didn't ya'... This is the real deal... In 10 years there will 1000s of these things hovering 200 feet over our backyard BBQs... Welcome to 1984... Arrived a little late... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: JohnInKansas Date: 30 Nov 11 - 12:09 AM The one that's a real worry is the DARPA project to built a humminbird sized drone that can fly right into your bedroom and hover while it takes notes. The Baptist Taliban down the street will be first on the list to buy a few hundred of those, if they get them working like they expect. Few of the common kinds of drones hover, but photo surveillance is good enough for many purposes from 10,000 feet agl, certainly from 1,000 ft. Even a country boy is gonna have a hard time hitting something that's not big enough to see from that far away, even if it's only circling at 40 or 50 kt. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Bobert Date: 30 Nov 11 - 08:30 AM The Baptist's down the street will get a rude awakening when they find that their wives and husbands are on another street shacked up doing what the preacher told 'um not to do... Lol... Ya' gotta love them Baptists... They know how to have fun... B;~) |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: gnu Date: 30 Nov 11 - 02:57 PM I went out with a Baptist way back when. She attended BJU in Greenville, South Carolina for two years. I'll stop right there and just say... Bobert... yup. |

Not that it'll help him stay loose, but it might help him to figure out what all of it is the next time he steals one.(?) John |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Bobert Date: 02 Dec 11 - 06:37 PM Just as long as them cop cars can't see that Natural Lite I got tucked between my legs, I'll be okay... Now if a danged drone flies in thru an open window and starts snooping then it's a different story... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Little Hawk Date: 04 Dec 11 - 10:08 AM Wiener dogs have an innate fear of being stalked by large flying predators. These government drones are the final realization of those fears. No wiener dog is going to rest easy once those damned things are flying around over our homes, but they can be counted upon to sound the alarm if one comes anywhere near. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Rapparee Date: 04 Dec 11 - 10:56 AM Those dogs also fear bagpipes. So does everyone else. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Stringsinger Date: 04 Dec 11 - 01:23 PM The metaphor of a drone is fitting considering the state of law enforcement today in the US. Drones are an extension of the Robocop, often personified, who shows no compassion in the exercise of administering the law. The use of drones reflect the inhumanity of the U.S. military and the political leadership that allow this abusive practice. Drones should be outlawed as a crime against humanity (of course I feel that way about all war). Surveillance drones exacerbate the problem and there is no justification for them ever. |

Subject: RE: BS: Barney Fife to get Drone??? From: Bobert Date: 04 Dec 11 - 07:20 PM Yeah, Strings, and in 10 years there will tens of thousands of these flying over the US 24/7... B~ |
