Kat" good suggestions! I will look. As for the nature of things - it is only to be expected! Being food to natural predators is one thing, Being ripped to pieces by dogs, chased by human animals with guns and dogs for "sport" .... I believe every animal has a right to life.

Charley: You got it! raccoons have some lovely sounds which could fit nicely into those categories. Every sound they make has meaning. We were amazed by the communication skills of our two kits.

I did not tell y'all that I consider them incredibly beautiful creatures, far more interesting than any dog or cat. But I also believe they deserve to live their lives as raccoons, not house pets.

Here I go to look some more.

Ragtime sounds good to me. However, when I've listened to raccoons crooning I thought they were more into jazz or rhythm & blues. But that's the raccoons, not the coon hunters.

While it may be the way of nature, I don't think some of you are being very sensitive to Dorothy.

Dorothy, I think some kinds of guitar pieces, ala Will Fly (he's got lots up on youtube) would be neat. Also, some ragtime, i.e. Scott Joplin, though I don't know if its in copyright now. Something jaunty might catch their eye, so to speak.

There's only the remotest chance any of the coon kits will starve to death; the likely way of demise will be as food for all the predators who are now habituated to this annual free lunch. IMO those predators are the ones that'll suffer from the unexpected lack of food if the hunt should suddenly cease.

I know what you like to say about my sweet friends, the raccoons, 999!!

Trying to find something palatable to wide range of humans. Since I first posted, I been thinking an instrumental version of Amazing Grace would be nice. It seems to suit almost everyone. I was not going to ask anyone to do something special but hoped to find something already done that we could have permission to use.

But sitting here listening to Bobby Dove...?   But it would be better not to have to get into recording situation. We can make the pics fit the music. We seem to have a pro volunteering for that part. But some of the music suggestions from group member were, to put it nicely, off the wall.

I assume your group of raccoon lovers don't have a gastronomic interest. (And, imo, they shouldn't. Raccoons taste like sh#t.)

Leeneia is right in terms of the musical approach. Why not run it by the bluegrass (country) guys and gals at Namasthe and see what response you get? I'd be happy to help with such a project, but I don't take directions very well, so maybe just let me proof materials or stuff like that.

Shouldn't be too hard to find people to play country/old-time/bluegrass.

You're trying to change the attitudes of the hunters, so the music needs to be something they can identify with. Can you work out what that might be?

It seems to me you are going about this the wrong way. First find people who are willing to play the music for you, then ask them what they can play to go with the footage provided.

Avoid copyrighted stuff, if possible.

Having just discovered the thread of funny animal videos, I hope there will be some interest in this project.

A group of people who rescue or otherwise care for and about raccoons, and other animals, are trying to produce a video to be used for improved public relations for raccoons. The catalyst for this is a raccoons "coon hunt" held annually in Tennessee in mid April. Raccoons are pursued by dogs and hunters and.... This is even more distressing if you realize that mid April is birthing time; killing mothers at that time will leave all their young to die of starvation, not a nice way to go.

Trying to find music to use on such a video is a balancing act. What music will best increase the effectiveness of our message? I am suggesting very traditional fiddle or bluegrass, as a soft background. I feel words might detract from the message. The music needs to be palatable to the widest possible audience.

Any ideas that I can pass along to my dear group of raccoon lovers??
