The set, actually a book with 3 accompanying CDs, was reviewed on Mustrad recently. However, I can't see it advertised for sale there, and as MT doesn't sell books, I fear you may be mistaken.

The Eddie Butcher 3 CD set is available from the Mustrad website. I'm sure Rod has plenty for sale and the price will be as always very reasonable. I got the Sarah Makem and Bill Smith sets for Christmas.

An Taisce is a completely diferent organisation to ITMA (Taisce Cheol Dúchais Éireann). Just to avoid further confusion.

The problem is that ordering anything from Ireland can entail all sorts of fancy charges in the forms of import duty, VAT etc.



That would seem very strange, generally VAT would be included in the price, if not it would be indicated. Import duties would not apply between the UK and Ireland.

The price for ordering the book in question is what it is. Plus cost for P&P.

Crowhugger, I know about that one. In fact An Taisce are the publishers. The problem is that ordering anything from Ireland can entail all sorts of fancy charges in the forms of import duty, VAT etc.

Plus, the Waterstone's price was a heck of a lot less than An Taisce are asking. Except that Waterstone's can't get it. Neither can Amazon,who also have it listed at a very reasonable price, except that they too can't get it.

Attn: Mark Ross I'd certainly be interested in reading more about Archie Green. He was frequently mentioned in Bill C. Malone's biography of Mike Seeger, and seemed to be someone I'd like to know more about.

I would certainly nominate John Szwed's The Man Who Recorded the World (Alan Lomax), and Will Kaufmann's Woody Guthrie-American Rebel.

But the book which will surely win hands down, if I ever manage to get my hands on a copy, is the book on Eddie Butcher; All the Days of His Life.

I say get my hands on a copy with more than a touch of frustration. I've had it on order from Waterstone's, here in Britain, for months now and they've just emailed me to say they can't get it.

I haven't had the chance to get hold of a copy of Liam O'Meara's book on Zozimus -it was published in mid December and hasn't been officially launched yet . I think it could be a contender . See the end of this thread for details:

John Szwed's 'The Man Who Recorded the World: A Biography of Alan Lomax'.

Fascinating and well-researched account of Lomax's life and recordings: a really interesting counterpoint to Shirley Collins' 'America Across The Water' of a few years ago. So good that I persevered with it despite the tiny tiny font in the paperback edition!

Mary Ellen Brown's book on the Child correspondence is fascinating and very revealing for those interested in the Child Ballads. I think there's a copy on Ebay at the moment and I'm sure you'll be able to order through DickG.
