Subject: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 16 Jan 12 - 12:41 PM got up this morning, knocked my glasses on the floor, went to pick them up and stepped on them, crunch Now I got duck tape all over them so I can see. Ya know you maybe a redneck if ya got duck tape on your glasses I also find that it is really hard to put duck tape on a duck, the critters move really fast they do |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Jan 12 - 01:40 PM Not only do they usually break if you step on then, when glasses fall off of the table they always land lens down, don't they? SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: ranger1 Date: 16 Jan 12 - 02:00 PM I dunno, Dan, tape on your glasses is usually considered a nerd thing (says she with the tape on the bow). |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 16 Jan 12 - 02:33 PM How old were the glasses? Perhaps it was time for new ones anyway, and you can take comfort that you are not out much. But listen, olddude, you tanatlized me on the Pennsylvania thread by mentioning fossil plant sites, then you never returned *. Can you drop some vague hints that give me a clue but not give the whole show away? *"the man who never returned..." There could be a song in that! |

Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jan 12 - 03:02 PM Dan, I don't think you were here, yet, when I put THIS up on my old website. It was during the early Shrub years when we were all being warned to duct tape our windows, etc. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Rog Peek Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:10 PM I curse the day I ever had to start wearing glasses. I buy the cheap 'off the peg' ones, as I am forever losing and breaking them. Of course, the need for glasses, coincided with onset of memory loss, so I can never remember where the hell I've put them. Once put a pair on the roof of the car, forgot they were there until I heard them sliding off the back of the car as I was driving down the road. Pulled into the side of the road, got out and walked back to where they had landed. Miraculously they were there in the middle of the road perfectly in tact. Just as I went to retrieve, a bloody car ran over them. And so it goes on........... One of the most irritating things, is I can no longer put a pencil behind my ear when I'm working, so I can never find that now! Rog |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Newport Boy Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:23 PM Mine live on a cord around my neck - I only take them off to eat and sleep. That way, the only time they get damaged is when I pick up a door to carry over to the workshop. Doors are heavy and you have to hold them close to your chest - result, broken glasses and chest bruises. (I've only done it twice!) Phil |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:27 PM I should wear mine when I post to threads. But I usually go ahead without them and ..... well, you know. |

Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:47 PM LOL yes Maeve .... I am walking around the house looking like a roll of duct tape. No kidding I stepped on em ... got the bridge all taped up, taped up the stems ... Now I am waiting till tomorrow to get another pair. Oh yes I have another pair of glasses ... I looked high I looked low ... I looked in places one should never go ... yup they are gone ... I will find them two years from now as always ... blind without them ... Gosh I hate my life |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:50 PM I've been wearing them since age 10 and lately I have been getting pissed at the prices. Even with the insurance it costs me about $250 or more plus exam. I went with a cheap place last time and still got nailed for almost $200. I hated the glasses too! So....... I'd been reading about the mail order things and after a ton of research I took a chance. I sent the prescription info and filled out the order, picked the frames and options then crossed my fingers. They arrived and I LOVE them. Just the frame I like and all the options I wanted. These are Progressive no-line bifocals, lightweight poly lenses with the usual options, plus sundarkening, in "memory" titanium frames.......All for just $85. including shipping! http://www.zennioptical.com/ Works for me! Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: gnu Date: 16 Jan 12 - 08:09 PM There has been an ad on the TV here... get glasses over the net at $38 a pop. Dunno about getting them fitted properly but the same thing applies to the mail order thing posted above, no? |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Jan 12 - 08:28 PM Glad to see kat and Rog agree. Zenni is very cheap but the frames I got are top notch and the lens grind couldn't be better. You need to have all the scrip data including the pupilary distance. IF all you need are sigle vision lenses, it is really cheap but if you wear bifocals and want the no line progressives, glasses are damned expensive. Zenni came through for me as I said above and they work great. The worst feature is the time which takes a few weeks. Big deal. I now have at least two functional pair and I'll get me some sunglasses come Spring! LOL....Lenscrafters and the rest can kiss my entire ass! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 17 Jan 12 - 03:11 PM Nothing but the best for me, my missus got some replacement frames for nine bucks LOL .. nine bucks not ninety .... and they look it too At least I can see until I get some real frames ... can't stop laughing. Hey big spender ... geeze how about the 11 buck pair ... mind you, these are not reading glasses, glasses glasses, I am blind without em |

Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: kendall Date: 17 Jan 12 - 07:36 PM Dan, sorry to hear you broke your specks, but glad to see you post again. I started wearing glasses in my early 20s and I've never broken a pair. Good thing too, they are trifocals.I can almost see at any distance. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: ChanteyLass Date: 17 Jan 12 - 10:27 PM In a college physical education class, a basketball hit and broke my glasses, the only pair I ever broke--though I'm not sure I should blame myself for this. We were required to take PE and to buy college health insurance. It wouldn't pay anything toward my new glasses. I was ANGRY! |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Gurney Date: 17 Jan 12 - 10:54 PM '...I couldn't help noticing a little line across the bridge of her nose. She said "The line that you're looking at was caused by glasses, my dear." I said "Why don't you use contact lenses?" She said "They don't hold enough beer."' The one-and-only Benny Hill. Dan, you are going about duct tape the wrong way. If you put the tape on your forehead, then you can stick the pieces of glasses to the bottom edge. It only hurts when you laugh. Or, in some cases, when you take the tape off. If you have a hairy forehead. Seriously, a short section of umbrella rib can be used to repair some spectacle frames. Judicious use of a hammer or pliers is called for. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 17 Jan 12 - 11:00 PM Yea that is the problem thank you gurney ... I been duct tapin all wrong .... Can't stop laughing thank you. Well I got a new real set of frames today so now I am happy ... not that there was anything wrong with my wifes choice of frames for me with the sparkles and wing tips on em ... :-) teasing |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 18 Jan 12 - 12:37 AM Without correction...I am legally blind. The most critical part of the prescription ... is the distance between the pupils. It determines the "sweet spot " and it is seldom semetrical...one side might be 12 and the other13. Without demanding the information - few opticians will provide it. Recently I was on a golf course. It sounds like a joke...a lawyer, a podiatrist, and an optician. Everyone had a tale of woe regarding hard economic times. I had no sympathy...for 76 dollars US...I can receive lenses and frames that cost over 400 from the "office." I lost all respect for US optomitrists when I purchased a 550 dollar, "lifetime guarantee " titanium frame " and returned at two years...and was told "the lifetime frame only has a life -time of 12 months." Vision Direct dot com...works for me. I go to two different opticians...and for 79.00 each receive two prescriptions. For 79.00 additional I purchase TWO sets of glasses via the Internet. Why two opticians? Because there are some real sob 's out there. Always get your WRITTEN prescription before they know you are not purchasing. The worst sob I ever encountered shouted, "When you get pink -eye don't come back to me." Three days later I had "giant pustulary conjunctivitis " from coincidental contact in his office. Since my current work throws me into third world countries...I will now play with 39 dollar exams that include frames and glasses within one hour. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Jan 12 - 02:21 PM I have my free NHS eye test, grab my prescription and ... run! I don't want new frames, and if the correction is a mere 0.25 change, it's perfectly OK to go on with the present specs. They make tons of profit on their frames, these bandits. They get hopping mad when you don't want to buy new glasses. Tough. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: kendall Date: 18 Jan 12 - 02:38 PM gargoyle, this sounds like false advertising to me, and thats illegal everywhere. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: gnu Date: 18 Jan 12 - 02:39 PM Three presciptions ago... the glasses I have on at the moment... work perfectly when I am at my computer because of the distance to the screen. The new ones don't. I sat on the old ones so I asked the receptionist for that prescription. Nope, no good anymore. Can't do that. So, I went back the next morning and waited for John to arrive in the parking lot. Told him what I wanted and he wrote it up. No problem. No charge. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Jan 12 - 03:10 PM Well I got me a pair of those newfangled bifocals ... can't see near, can't see far ... made the doc knock them out and put my normal lenses back in ... I mean what the hell, it is easier just to take them off when I need to read |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Jan 12 - 03:52 PM olddude, I once had some bi-focals 'on trial'. They made me dizzy and nauseous, so I took them back and asked for plain lenses. (This was many years ago) They were hopping mad, but the offer said "Refund if not delighted", well I was far from delighted, I nearly fell downstairs! |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 19 Jan 12 - 07:38 AM Eliza, when I first got multi-focals I was lucky enough to adjust almost immediately, as I did to each subsequent prescription, but several friends had the problem you had & had to get rid of them immediately. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: Dang Glasses ! From: GUEST,olddude Date: 19 Jan 12 - 09:10 AM We are alike, I thought I was looking through water with the bifocals nope I made them put my old lenses back in.
