Subject: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: Tig Date: 09 Feb 12 - 01:45 PM Just went onto Facebook and picked up this message from Dan. Friends, I'm on the road in northern Indiana. Tandy called me last night to tell me that we had a fire at our house. She was out at the time and is fine but our sweet, beautiful dog Maeve died in the fire. The fire started in my office and all I know right now is that my computer & desk were destroyed, not sure about the books or instruments yet. I'm presuming that my calendar is also gone - no back up to the calendar, only some of the files on the computer are backed up. I have my laptop with me. Our phone is dead so please just keep us in your thoughts. I'll be home tomorrow & I'll post when I know more. Couldn't see it on here and I know a lot of you would want to know. Let's hope it's not as bad as he fears but it's a shame about Maeve. ((((((((((((((Dan and Tandy))))))))))))) |

Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Keddings. From: CupOfTea Date: 09 Feb 12 - 02:26 PM How devestating for Dan and Tandy! I so picture Dan at Fox Valley - with his dog tagging along or swapping weird instrument licks with Art Thieme or making you JUMP with the story about the snakecharmer. I vividly remember him telling the story about his dog Jack, who ate the couch. Dog friendship seemed to rate highly with him, as it did with me. Losing mine to old age was horrid enough, but this must be unbearably sad. I hope the disruption and loss in their lives is minamal and can be set to rights soon. While Dan's splendid voice surely can sing the sad songs, I can see him needing a lighter heart for his storytelling. If you don't know Dan Kedding, check out his articles in SING OUT magazine. It's well worth getting any of his albums of songs or stories. I'm not on facebook & appreciate the Mudcat posting. I can't do anything but offer prayers from Cleveland, Joanne |
Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Keddings. From: Tig Date: 09 Feb 12 - 02:27 PM An absolutely wonderful person who is a story teller - one of the best I've ever come across - and also a fellow mudcat. His name is spelled with one d but I'd posted before I realised I'd misspelled it. Big hugs to both him and Tandy. We've had the problem of fires before on here. |
Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: GUEST,999 Date: 09 Feb 12 - 03:03 PM Tig, it won't help much, but from 15 years of firefighting I can pretty well assure you that the dog died from gas inhalation and didn't burn to death. It ain't much, but other than condolences it's all I can offer to your friends. |
Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: Tig Date: 09 Feb 12 - 06:05 PM This one seems to be slipping a bit fast! Dan and Tandy are the most wonderful people and at least need all the hugs and healing thoughts we can muster. Facebook are beating us by 53 posts! For Dan to have lost all the multiple stuff he keeps in his office would make life so difficult for the pair of them - especially his precious books. |
Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: katlaughing Date: 09 Feb 12 - 07:10 PM My deepest condolences to them both on the loss of their beloved furperson and other losses. Thank goodness they are both okay. Thanks for letting us know, Tig. Much love and good thoughts going out to Dan and Tandy. And, remembrance of Maeve, esp. when I go throw the ball for our Luna. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: Tig Date: 16 Feb 12 - 02:34 PM Just to keep folks up to date: Thanks to all my friends for their kind thoughts. Here's an update. All but two rooms of our house will be gutted - new insulation, new walls, new floors, new appliances. All the furniture that had fabric will be trashed. The computer is half gone - melted actually - luckily I have my laptop. Tandy's antiques are in Michigan being refurbished as well as many of my more rare books. I probably lost several hundred books but miraculously my guitars and banjos came through without a scratch. The lesson is not to put books on shelves but to store them in instrument cases. The house is utterly depressing - just black walls, soot and ash everywhere - its heart breaking. I still can't get over Maeve. Let's hope things go right from now on. |

Subject: RE: Fire at Dan Kedings. From: CupOfTea Date: 23 Feb 12 - 03:04 PM When Dan has time to think about it - are there any books or magazines, recordings, tapes that he's missing that folks might be able to donate to him? I know "stuff" isn't as high a priority as making the house livable and life back on track, but if every time something is missed, it got listed, it might not be something the insurance would be able to cover, but folkies might. Subject: Update from Dan Keding about fire damage From: Tig Date: 01 Mar 12 - 05:21 PM Hi This is the latest news from Dan which appeared on Facebook this evening. An update for my FB friends. Tandy and I are settled into a house right next door to our friends Kathe Brinkmann and her son Daniel. Our house will be totally gutted and rebuilt on the inside - renovation should take from 4 to 6 months. I've lost about half or more of my collection of books but won't know which titles for several weeks. We are tired all the time - meeting with contractors, meeting insurance adjusters and going over list after list of things to be done, things that are gone or things that need our attention. I still expect Maeve to come running around the corner to greet me every time I come home. So don't throw out any of your old books for the time being and carry on sending big hugs! |

Subject: RE: Update from Dan Keding about fire damage From: wysiwyg Date: 02 Mar 12 - 12:23 AM Books? Somebuddy needs to tell Hollowfox. She has a great source and loves to ship. Me, I'd send him a Kindle. I just learned how to use mine as a story-teller. ~S~ |
