Does anyone know who wrote these two Austrailian animal songs ? The first starts out:

I'm an Aussie shark (pronounced "Ozzie shaahk")
My bite's worse than my bark

The other starts out:

Where does a goanna go
when a goanna's goin' away

and ends:

Nobody knows where a goanna goes,
'cause only a goanna goanna knows.

T.

Yep,

don't know about the shark one but the goanna one is on a CD by Don Spencer (even got him in the UK doing play school when I was a kid). Good CD for kids.. all the songs are about Aussie animals "Please don't call me a koala bear for I'm not a bear at all" etc.

The CD is called "Thumbs up! Australia - Australian animal songs by don spencer

It was published by ABC for Kids 1985,88,89,& 93(I know it has a web site.. will try to find it later.)

G'day,
Can't really help except that I vaguely remember a shark song about Kerry Packer.

According to the Oxford Dictionary shark IS pronounced shaahk. i.e. the 'ar' is pronounced as in father. To our ears the consonant 'r' sound in such words as spoken by North Americans & Irish sounds funny. It's supposed to be a vowel modifier.

Cheers,
Alan (having a good old stir)

alan, I'm glad you think you can justify the way you talk funny , hahaha..........at least the rest of us know how to pronounce "r"..... do they actually include it when they teach you the alphabet in school? *grin*.... (stirring right back..... )

found the ABC site.. found the don spencer page..... but not the CD in question

G'day mayts. Air y' rawyght 'r air y' crook ?

How's my accent ? I learned to speak Austrailian from an English bloke who had lived in Australia for a while, so the accent I learned may have been somewhat filtered.

Thanks for the info on Don Spencer!

Very amusing to see an Australian justifying his pronunciation from the "Oxford Dictionary", but you left a word out of the dictionary's name. I think the missing word is "Pommy".

Jerry Friedman, an American who likes worrrrrds.

Well, the Oxford (Pommy) Dictionary was the one we had to buy when I went to school.

Cheers,
Alan, also likes wöds.

AUSSIE SHARK
(Don Spencer)

I'm an Aussie shark
My bite's worse than my bark
I live in the ocean where it's deep and dark
Cause I'm an Aussie shark
I live in the waters off the Barrier Reef
I'm the very proud owner of some very sharp teeth
And seafood's what I like to eat
Cause I'm an Aussie shark

I don't like nets and I don't like hooks
I don't believe all you read in books
If you ask me I think it's crook
What they say about Aussie sharks
I'm an Aussie shark
My bite's worse than my bark
I live in the ocean where it's deep and dark
Cause I'm an Aussie shark

There's bronze whalers, blue whalers, black whalers too
Then there's the pointers great white and blue
If you don't bother us we won't bother you
Cause we're all Aussie sharks
I'm an Aussie shark
My bite's worse than my bark
I live in the ocean where it's deep and dark
Cause I'm an Aussie shark

There's the grey nose, hammerhead and wobbegong
The gummy shark's wondering where his teeth have gone
I'm a true blue pointer so I wrote this song
All about Aussie sharks
I'm an Aussie shark
My bite's worse than my bark
I live in the ocean where it's deep and dark
Cause I'm an Aussie shark

It's another long-time request nailed.

And who should we credit, dear guest?
