Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: GUEST,CJB Date: 29 Feb 12 - 06:52 PM But ... if the original recording is at 128 or lower, e.g. 64 kpps, Save As... MP3 using 192 or 320 ain't gonna increase the fidelity. All you will end up with is a ginourmous file sounding as 'muddy' as a 64 kbps recording. Its termed entropy. |

Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: maeve Date: 28 Feb 12 - 09:58 PM If you will insist on boasting about stupidity... Many of us miss the options that are in front of us! Glad you got it cranked to the right setting! |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Owen Woodson Date: 28 Feb 12 - 12:23 PM Thanks Maeve and Arthur. I'm onto it and I'm now exporting files at 320kbs. I can only put my stultifying stupidity at not noticing the Options box down to old age. But then old age is a convenient excuse for just about everything these days. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Arthur_itus Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:38 AM Agreed. That's what Mudcat is best at. Helping each other in our hour of need. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: maeve Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:35 AM :) So long as Owen gets the help he needs, I am content to bask in your swift shadow. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Arthur_itus Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:30 AM Beat yer Maeve :-) You know you have to be quick on Mudcat lol. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: maeve Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:27 AM That's a good description, Arthur itus, and quickly posted. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: maeve Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:25 AM Owen- I have the same version of Audacity. When you tell it to export a file, a window opens up. You'll see "Options" in that window. Click on that and set the compression where you want it to be. No clue as to how yours was switched. Best of luck! |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Arthur_itus Date: 28 Feb 12 - 11:21 AM Version 1.3 beta. The option button is available as soon as "Export" is selected from the File menu. Click "File". Click "Export". (opens "Export File" window). In "Save as type" box (select mp3). Select "Options". (shows "Specify mp3 Options" window). Select bitrate from "Quality" drop down list. Click OK. Click save on "Export File" window. Also if you look at the bottom left corner of the window, you should see Project Rate (HZ) clcik on the drop down icon to change. Hope that is what you are looking for. |
Subject: RE: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Owen Woodson Date: 28 Feb 12 - 10:26 AM Sorry, I should have added that I'm saving in MP3. |
Subject: Tech: File Compression Audacity From: Owen Woodson Date: 28 Feb 12 - 10:24 AM My copy of Audacity ® 1.3.13-beta (Unicode)has suddenly decided to export files at 128 kbs, instead of the 320 kbs which I normally use. For the life of me I can't see any way in Audacity to change the bitrate. Can anyone help? Many thanks. |
