I was paying my road tax online recently and, while idly browsing the government web site (yes, I know, sad isn't it...), came across the online driving theory test. Having passed my test over 40 years ago - at a time when it was quite different from today's test in content, I thought I'd chance my arm and take it 'blind' - no previous reading up, etc.

It's in two parts - 50 questions each part and the pass is 43 questions correct. So - your mission, should you choose to accept it - is to do it, see how you get on, and report the answers here. No cheating now...

Driving theory test (UK)

I should say that I got 46 out of 50 for each part - my knowledge of towing trailers and caravans needed a little polish!

I got 46 too, I would have got 48 if I had read two of the questions properly.

I got 49 out of 50 for each test.

The one I got wrong in the in first test was about what to do exiting from a side road with restricted view. On reflection, what I would do in practice was as described in the correct answer, not as I answered.

In the second test, I had no idea how far a red triangle should go ahead of a broken down car. In my experience, some red triangles are so small that I'm already aware of the other vehicle well before I have even noticed the triangle.

My husband sat this Theory Test twice recently (passed the second time) We used websites to practise. I've been driving for 35 years, and found it very hard. I couldn't get the hang of the Hazards section, clicking when you spy a danger. One of the videos to click on showed a busy street with cars parked both sides. I could see potential dangers everywhere! But if you click too much you score zero. He'll be doing the Practical Test fairly soon, which I'm quite sure I wouldn't pass, as you have to reverse park. Also the 'Show me Tell Me' and the 'Independent Driving' sections. I'd fail miserably. It reminds me of the 'Life In The UK' test, which I doubt many Brits could pass without long study. I certainly couldn't and I've lived here for... well.. a Very Long Time!

Well, I just got 44 (scraped a Pass) Not sure about speed towing a trailer and a few other things.

Dont know how but I scored 50 in both and 46 in the HGV test and 47 in the motorbike test. Have been driving for over 50 years,Cars Lorries Buses, Motor bike and now I am feeling tired so going to have a quick nap

I managed to scrape a pass for the LGV thanks to a few random lucky guesses.

Many of the questions were plain funny.

A little old lay has just stepped onto the crossing up ahead. Do you:
a) slow and allow the little old lady to cross at the crossing,
b) accelerate into her and leave her broken and bleeding to death in the middle of the road?
