Well, it's been over a year... Unmedicated bipolar son attacked his roommate. Roommate concussed, pressing charges, and getting son kicked off lease. Cops would/could neither arrest nor take son in for paych eval. I had to go to magistrate to get separate warrant for psych eval. Roommate had to go to magistrate, after ER, to get charges pressed. No idea what happens when both mental and criminal things going on. Will keep you posted. The only thing the cops eould do was put in a restraining order. I don't think they believed us that it wasn't a domestic abuse thing. I am once again disgusted with US health care.

I have a similar scenario with our youngest and I know there are far more mixed feelings that you may have but don't talk about.

Its just another brick in the heart.

No, no, I just am kinda depressed and not online here enough (spending way too much time correcting people on facebook on my phone, and not anywhere that takes typing like here). Thanks.

Kid is out, and I saw them pick up refills of meds (seemed to be about a week late but I'll take it). Doesn't contact me unless in need, of course, typical and refreshingly normal parental complaint, so I guess fine as I haven't heard anything lately.

But I don't think there is a job, yet, so I still worry. Again, refreshingly normal worries.

And thanks for checking in on my saga. Be assured that if anything happens, it will get posted!

Mrzzy I share the anguish of kids in jeopardy. It feels hopeless but isn't. The future is on their side.

Employment is hard edged. In the final analysis people don't really care about you unless they want something from you. An employer will care more about the job, unless you are self employed or working for friends or family.
Will the job be a service or a product?
only the future knows. No job is BS. It might be a stepping stone.

seconding chantylasses's post.

Years ago a friend's daughter has several involuntary admissions - once a taxi driver saw her behaving erratically so took her to hospital - but she talked her way out after a day or so (yes, I'll take my medicine, I'll stay with my dad ...) Her final involuntary admission led to her "escaping" so she was then committed for long enough for treatment to work & last I heard back with family & friends, working & part of society, no longer a 20-ish bag lady.

Today is the 35th anniversary of Daddy, pacifist, being blown up, by terrorists inventing the carbomb. Just reminding y'all. On This Day In History. I am his age now, which would bother me a lot more if I weren't so worried about my crazy kid.

And poor kid is still in the hospital, about to be recommitted One More Time. (That makes this a musical thread.)

Shall we have more race riots in Charlottesville this summer? Will I ever get another job? Tune in next time on Interesting Times!

Thanks friend - he's better but just got recommitted for another month, which he needs. Some of which he needs. He is better but it's tenuous (Sunday he threw furniture and threatened suicide, today he was pretty much OK. Pourvu que ça dure.

Thanks, a lot, for checking.

Good news is he's been actually committed this time, which he sorely needs.

Now he can never buy a gun, right? See, I have a sense of humor.

I am just SO relieved he's, I am repeating myself, actually been involuntarily committed. Last time it was kinda voluntary so they let him out WAY too soon.

Thanks.

These are perilous times for the young!
Guess this has nothing to do with your family
but I can't take my mind off of
the high school students who are becoming activists
after surviving an attack
by a fellow student with an assault weapon.

Mental illness is such an isolating experience.
Wishing for connection, contact, and supportive companionship,
somehow, for you and yours.

Thank you all, and yes, the Boston thing was great. I also did graduate research in Barcelona, sigh again.

I was at the beach, we had left the day before. Made the whole Where did you come to the beach from conversation really, really difficult, especially when the family had small children.

Then we went to totality for the eclipse, and only just got back. That was beyond cool.

Meanwhile, Charlottesville is going to cover the statues with black, for mourning they say, because we can't move them, apparently, there are laws right now that prevent their removal.

I will have to do a pilgrimage of sorts around the town and reclaim my memories.

This had to be interesting for you, Mrrzy, as a Tufts graduate -- somebody tried to throw an I-don't-know-what in Boston, but the people who came out by the thousands were anti-supremacists.
