Some one told me that they found a possible physical cause of veteran suicides. They performed an autopsy of a suicide and found he had what is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy. They performed autopsies on several other veterans, and found the same thing. With luck this could help bring further understanding to p.t.s.d., treatments, and preventions.

Here is the article I found...yeah it is just an op-ed piece, but a google search shows it is a legitimate discovery, although the media seems rather silent on it.

Holy moly! That is a great discovery! Hopefully, it will help vets in future. Two of my buddies shot themselves rather than try to deal... nevermind.

Thanks for posting that, Amergin. It's big news.

Traumatic Brain Injury in civilian life (mostly from auto accidents) involves PTSD so often that a lot of therapists have suspected that PTSD was caused by TBI, and that the combat PTSD resulted from closed head traumas that didn't seem serious, or may not have been noticed.

And yes, why hasn't anyone picked up on this?

This may be of interest (it's a PowerPoint presentation). Apparently a major problem in making a connection is that CTE is very latent.

My fear is that suddenly this will become THE sole and only reason for things like PTSD -- and that ain't necessarily so. Which might be why the mainstream media has stayed away from it -- not only do they not understand it, but they like a single cause magic bullet solution and there really isn't one.
