Subject: BS: A pocket watch for a penny? From: Will Fly Date: 26 May 12 - 09:59 AM Sometimes I get really curious about some of the rubbish I see on eBay. Well, a few days ago, while trawling through the "Jewellery and watches" section for pocket watches, I saw a whole series of auctions for mechanical pocket watches "for sale" from a seller in Hong Kong. Minimum bid - 0.01p Well, in this case, curiosity got the better of me and a I bid - 0.01p - and got the watch. Postage - as if you had to guess - was £9.99p. I'm convinced the watch is going to be crap. The postage is, in reality, probably around £4.00 or £5.00. The watch probably cost about £2 to make with cheap labour and will probably fail the same day or very soon after that. The seller will make around £3 on every sale and sell several hundred to suckers all over the world. But, do you know, I don't care. I'm really curious to see what this penny watch is like and I'm quite happy to give it to a charity shop if it's the piece of crap I think it might be. Who knows... I might be pleasantly surprised...! A pocket watch for 1p |
