Subject: October 18th Thought For The Day From: Little Neophyte Date: 18 Oct 99 - 08:24 AM Important Things My Kids Taught MeIt's more fun to colour outside the lines. If you're gonna draw on the wall, do it behind the couch. Ask why until you understand. If you want a kitten, start out by asking for a horse Making your bed is a waste of time. If your dog doesn't like somebody, you probably shouldn't either. Toads aren't ungly. They're just toads. Don't pop someone else's bubble. Just keep banging until someone opens the door. Chasing the cat is more fun than catching it.

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: Peter T. Date: 18 Oct 99 - 10:52 AM Alternative thought for the day, for reasons cited at the bottom:
"I want to speak today of a certain kind of bodhisattva. As you know, in our Buddhist tradition, there are bodhisattvas, figures who refuse to go into Heaven unless all other beings go first down to the lowliest blade of grass. They toil through endless aeons, working compassionately through the vast web of life. Of all these, none are so revered and so unknown as the "mirrorless bodhisattvas" -- bodhisattvas who do not know they are Buddha, and who if you told them they were, would laugh at you. We say of them that they do not carry around a mirror to see how wonderfully they are doing: they just keep doing. You have all glimpsed them, perhaps: often poor, sometimes seemingly crazy, rude, foolish, twisting in convoluted patterns to untangle an entangled world. How many spills they mop up; how many late nights they work; how little thanks they get; how often drained of belief, hope, energy they are. And yet it is these mirrorless bodhisattvas that bring a smile to our face when we think of them -- a mother, a friend, or, who knows, a stranger met once on a street who helped you for no obvious reason -- it is they who bring compassionate awakening to worlds plunged in suffering." -- Pasanchon (Korean Buddhist) |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: Little Neophyte Date: 18 Oct 99 - 12:26 PM We may be able to survive without religious people but we will never survive without the spiritual ones and "mirrorless bodahisattvas". Peter T, are you going to laugh when I tell you that you are a wise old sage? Little Neo |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: katlaughing Date: 18 Oct 99 - 03:49 PM Oh, Peter, you know that goes right to the heart of things; right to my heart. What a beautiful quote and insight. I spoke to 'Spaw, yesterday. He will really appreciate this. I talked to Karen, too. They are doers; just keep doing the best they can for the children. They are optimistic about finding a solution for "M". Truly blessed bodhisattvas, as are you. luvyaKatlaughingSageWalkerortrying |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 18 Oct 99 - 04:21 PM Little one, the more I see of you in the threads, the more delighted I am with your presence. Maybe you are one of the younger bodhisattvas. As for myself, I keep looking in the mirror but I don't see any bodhisattva in there, just an old guy trying to get by without making the world any worse. --seed |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: Lonesome EJ Date: 18 Oct 99 - 04:23 PM Truly blessed are the mirror-less Bhodisattvas. On the other hand, the ones with the mirrors can drive you up the wall. |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Oct 99 - 11:00 AM Are you kidding? I love mirrors!!! Problem is, I'm just so damn disorganized I can never find one when I need it. After the one fell off the rusted hinges of the medicine cabinet, I've had to get down on the floor to brush my hair....Gave up on that too..my knees can't take it anymore. Spaw |

Subject: RE: October 18th Thought For The Day From: JedMarum Date: 19 Oct 99 - 01:22 PM I just realized that my dogs might disagree with your last comment ("Chasing the cat is more fun than catching it"). As sweet and loving as my 2 little Whippets are, Lacey and Magic did catch a neighborhood cat who apparently wandered into the enclosed backyard. The poor feline was no match for the two hunters (who just know they were born to kill furry little creatures). To my wife's horror, the dogs offered to share their prize when she arrived home from work. We never did discover the owner of the cat, (who must have long since given up hope that their kitty will ever come home). We gave the kitty a proper burial, and have since tried to teach the hunters that cats are our friends ... now squirrels, on the other hand; well that's open game! |
