Our daughter-in-law has asked if we can all go to a festival where it doesn't cost too much, we can camp and there are activities for grandsons aged 3 years and 18 months. Son and D-I-L are not big folkies although they do love ceilidhs.

I don't fancy going too far and 3 or 4 hours drive from Manchester would be ideal if possible.

Suggestions?

What a shame you missed Chester Festival. The camp site is on Kelsall village's playing field, next to the children's playground, and there was a Panic Circus tent with various activities, juggling, wire walking, puppets etc. Family ceilidh one afternoon. Singing for children. Never mind, the 18month old boy will enjoy it more next year.
Whitby has family ceilidhs every day (early evening), and other events. Plus the attraction of the beach.

See Staithes and Roxby references in Mudcat. Staithes will be better for kids as there is the seaside. Roxby is a small countryside session - both free admission

You are unlikely to find ceilidhs at either Staithes or Roxby. At Staithes, the seaside is at the bottom of a steep hill and the music sessions take place at the top.

It may be more than you want to pay, but for what you want, it has to be for me Warwick.

How many of the childrens events are for 1 - 3 yr olds though.
There's a lot for primary school age. Maybe the tinies are OK if Mum stays with them. Or is that what grandparents are for?

That looks pretty good, Sooz. And for £60 for a family ticket it is excellent value too. May see you there :-)

Broadstairs (Kent) has Panic Circus on the camp site all week. Great for the kids. Lots for grown ups as well
