Thank you, Nutty. It was indeed a really fine Durham Folk Party and the mix of singers and dancers was delightful. It was a also a pleasure to see Doreen and Bryan, Barry and Ingrid and Chris and Ann on Saturday. I hope that all who attended will turn up again next year plus any others who would enjoy "a right old song and dance" on the last full weekend of July.

Home and unpacked after a really fine Durham folk party. A friendly mix of singers and dancers - great singing venues and one of the best campsites in the North at the Durham Rowing Club on the banks of the River Weir.

Thanks to all, organisers and those who took part.
Ian, obviously, had been saying his prayers as Sunday's rain showers stopped just as the garden party was about to begin and we were all able to sit out in the sunshine until mid evening when the Rowing Club Bar opened and the singing started again.

There were a number of day visitors particularly on Saturday afternoon when Doreen (Elliott) and Bryan Henderson, Barry and Ingrid Temple and Chris Wilson and Ann Alderson swelled the ranks. Part of the afternoon was spent hunting for Chris's car keys which had fallen into another singers bag and were only found when the gentleman in question went to take some songsheets out of his bag.

All ended well and having caused much hilarity and helped to make it an afternoon to remember.

As an aside, I was very happy to get a copy of Doreen Elliot's Auto-biography a very humerous (and serious) account of A PITMAN'S FAMILY LIFE 1927 to Present Day.

To my mind it should be a must on any school's History Curriculum.

I was so enthused by the thought of Maureen's electric tennis racket that I felt moved to power wash the conservatory roof in case there were wasps nearby. I do look forward to seeing this strange device.

I will shop tommorrow for ant-wasp spray for Sunday afternoon also Maureen has a thing that looks like a tennis racket but is electrified which is used for swatting wasps (that's the insect type wasps).

Well, this Saturday past was the Durham Miners' Gala, which is a celebration of the working man, in particular miners, with banners and brass bands. It is a fine event and I am glad to be able to attend. This means that DFP 23 begins a week on Friday.Roll up,roll up!

We didn't sing such as "Only Remembered" last night but instead had the sort of night that Frank would have enjoyed. Doubtless "Only Remembered" will be sung at the Folk Party when we feel a bit stronger.

Tis true,Soldier boy, the malign influence of Humphrey Smith extends to bells as well as to folk clubs!!!!! I was in a pub in Liverpool I think which turned out to be a Sam Smith's pub and the landlord told me that the afore-mentioned Mr Smith can dress as a scruff to see how he is received in his pubs. Perhaps he should dress like a morris dancer!

Holey moley Roy, it was in 1972 and I never will forget that concert in the Town Hall when you and the audience's chorus singing brought tears to my eyes. Anyone who was there will agree that it was a magical experience! Singing - I'm still learning new songs!

It's July now and the 23rd Durham Folk Party will burst into new life on the weekend of 28th,29th and 30th July.There will be singers, musicians and dance teams. Sounds like a festival but it ain't, it's a "right old song and dance". There's a campsite at the Rowing Club costing £15 for the weekend, singing will be there on the Saturday and Sunday evening; the Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes we will sing in the Dun Cow; musicians will play in the Shakespeare and dance teams will be out and abour with the famous lunchtime displays in the Market Place. It will be a good do and everyone is welcome.
