How long have you had it? Is it time for a new one?

If it's speed on the internet - probably the problem is your ISP or your router (or modem).

If it is processor-hungry applications like video or multi-track music - - new computer with more crunch (but you could try turning off all other applications to see how much difference it makes.

If it's general operational stuff have you defragged and emptied cache etc?

Have you thought about backing your data up and formatting C and doing a clean re-install (preferably with pretty much only OS on C and other stuff elsewhere)?

Put it in the passenger seat of 599 Ferrari. Zero to sixty mph in under three seconds.

How old is the computer?
Is it a Mac or PC?
What OS are you using? (Kind and version) If it's a PC are you running windows or unix?
What processor is in it, and what's the clock speed?
How many hard drives are present?
How big are they, and how much free space is on each?
How much RAM is installed?
What does it do that you think is too slow? (What programs and/or processes don't respond as rapidly as you want?)
What AntiVirus/AntiMalware do you use, and IS IT UP TO DATE?
Is it a single computer or do you have a multi-computer LAN?
What kind of internet connection are you using? Modem/switch/router? Wired or wireless?
What kinds of peripherals are connected?

As the question is stated, the only reasonable response I can think of is to suggest you drop it off a tall building. I can assure that it will speed up all the way down. That might not be what you had in mind(?). If it's not, you need to finish the question.

John

Uninstall Norton Anti-Virus completely and install Microsoft Security Esentials.

Unidentified GUEST has a bad idea. CURRENT Norton versions are as fast as anything that's decent protection, provide protections (that you can choose whether to use or not) that are NOT available with MSE, and there's NO INTERFERENCE with any normal use of the computer because all scans, except active detection of incoming malware (if you choose to turn that on), are done very politely and invisibly in "idle time." If you keep a subscription, Norton generally will update obsolete versions at no cost, so there's no real reason to be running an obsolete (and slow) version.

If you just want cheap, MSE is a fairly decent free protection, and has improved enough to be competitive with most "free" AV versions; but it only checks for known and currently active forms of malware that have caused a problem for Microsoft.

John

With my years of experience in IT, I can recommend dropping it from higher up.

Play bagpipes near it...it'll run faster than Cletus from a bar of soap to get away.

I meant to set up my computer so data would save on the D: drive and programs reside on the C: drive, but delayed and then forgot. I finally did make the shift and have better performance now that my C: drive isn't in the red-zone (full).

I can't speak for current Norton or Panda or McAfee but I found the old ones AWFUL resource hogs. AVG was tolerable. Avast was fast but missed things.
