Many of us mudcatters know the name Night Owl. Anybody notice she has been missing from out threads lately? There is good reason.....

This summer I had the privilage of spending just over a week with night owl in Vancouver, BC (due to holiday screwups she came out to visit me!) About 2 days after she left on her holidays her house in Cape Cod was hit by lightning. The fire damage was severe. Under her daughter's instructions, she continued her holiday while her daughter dealt with the 'mess' that was left behind. (this was late july/early Aug.) Since being home mid Aug. she has been dealing with the aftermath and going through the house to find some important treasure intact. We have had many conversations by phone during the past months and she is definitely having a time dealing with the reality that has been presented her.

Because we are such a supportive group of each other, I am going out on a limb here to suggest that we might get messages to her of our support. She currently does not have a computer and so is missing out on all the mudcat goodies (what's mudcat radio? she asks). SHe is not able to get her own email or read mudcat threads. I will suggest this however...... I have her daughters email and will post it here. We could send the messages to her and then they could get passed on ...... I will email her daughter to warn her....

Night Owl's daughter's email is:

(address removed at Night Owl's request- el joclone - )

As I have found out, and many others, we support our own. Let's let Night Owl know that we miss her, and if I get heck for it..... tough. It's the thought that counts, right!

For those of you who don't know her, Night Owl is a wonderful, compassionate person who uses music therapy to communicate with special patients. She started the thread Music Therapy asking for easy songs to teach her clients on the autoharp--thus starting one of the truly memorable threads, a must-read right up there with Spancil Hill.

Night Owl, if you can get this message, know that we love you and wish you all the best. Is there any way we can help?

Paul,

As you will know when you check your email, I have missed Night Owl SO MUCH! I have been very concerned about her; now I know why. I will send her an email. Do you know if she needs donations? Did she have insurance?

I am glad she is okay, but very, very sad that this happened and that she has been kept away from us because of it. Next time you talk to her, please give her my love and good wishes.

Thanks so much, Paul.

We were worried about her -- thought it was personal burnout -- turns out to be real burnout!! Night Owl is one of the best people. E-mail sent.

Thanks for the info Paul........Some of us have mentioned missing her and wondered what happened as we truly missed her here. I will e-mail her of course and let's see what we can do for a wonderful 'Catter.

This brings up the subject too regarding privacy vs. "missing" folks. Everyone is entitled to their privacy and we don't have to fall all over ourselves with concerns, but...............

What happens to some of our friends here sometimes, when for no apparent reason they go missing? When Roger Gall left (Shambles), we were perhaps all a bit aggravated at the manner in which he did so. I think it bothered some of our more sensitive 'Catters to a greater degree. If he wanted to leave, I appreciate him saying so, but he unfortunately came off as "crying and whining." Maybe that had some effect on Owl not posting her situation...I don't know.

No, I'm speaking of and wondering about cases like Night Owl's. It would have been good to know, even if she didn't want/need/desire/whatever our "support" (which can be a bit overwhelming) it would have been good to know a little about what happened.

Well this is coming out badly isn't it? I seem to be saying that Night Owl owed us something and that is not my intent at all! I hope some of you understand me here and know what I'm saying because evidently I don't!!! Geeziz.........Anyway, what happened to Cuillion and her beautiful braid Scots postings and loving heart; or the irreverent AlistairUK???? You don't get to know someone as well as we knew Owl and share so much back and forth without caring about them, ya' know???

I'll send the e-mail and shut up...Sorry

Spaw

I have a question?
If someone is going away for a while; lets say on a holiday or something comes up good or bad or whatever, where would you post such a notice for others to know?
Do you make a new Thread?
Is there a bulletin board for Missing Persons?

Little Neo,
I know this sounds slightly paranoid, but sending out a statement on the Web that "I'm going to be away from home on these dates" sounds like an invitation for robbery (if you're one of those foolish people like me who doesn't use a pseudonym...) That's another reason why it's not a good idea to publicly announce "So-and-so's in the hospital for the next 3 weeks", etc...

I wholeheartedly agree with you lamarca, but maybe a note saying "I'm going to be busy so my 'Cattin' time will be down for a few weeks" or something like that? Maybe followed to someone they trust with an e-mail or the like?

I dunno'.....just hate to see people disappear.

In that vein BTW, I've had emails from both Banj (whom I will call tonight since I get my return mail back) and Bill in Alabama saying that they have computer problems and are having a hard time getting into the Mudcat. They are both OK, just some kind of net problems.

I know exactly what you are trying to say, Catspaw. I've felt the very same about Cuillion and Alistair UK; still wonder about them. And, lamarca, you are right, of course, about not letting the world know, as Joe Offer has pointed out before.

I think 'Spaw's suggetion is a good one; either say your time here will be ltd. or send a personal message to one of us so that we can reassure those who ask, without it being public knowledge.

'Spaw, I think part of what we are feeling is that responsibility we feel comes with being a friend. I know a lot of us feel that towards one another. I am not blaming Night Owl; she is one of teh ebst people I've ever met on here and I know she would've let us know if she'd had a way and was able to overcome the shock and grief this must've caused her sensitive and enlightened soul.

Thanks, again, Paul.

Hi gang, I am sure the message is arriving loud and clear.

Some of you have asked about helping out...... I really don't know what she could use, I am being more of a spiritual shoulder for her right now. It sounds like there is good people around her there....

If anyone is in the Cape area and feel the desire, the best way would be to contact her daughter, Tara, and put an offer to her that she could pass on to her mom. I know they are in contact every few days (I think). The best we can do is ask.......!

Thanks for the info on Night Owl. Sorry to hear of her predicament. Looking on the bright side, if there is one, she is OK. Most things material can be replaced, as long as ones health is intact, all other things can be dealt with.

I was touched by Catspaw's phone call. I didn't realize that I had been so conspicuos with my absence. As I explained to 'Spaw, I have been a bit preoccupied with things at work. Getting used to a change in our operating hours and having taken on the monumental task of sorting through and recording tax exempt records dating back some 30 years for our customers has taken much of my time. One of those times when work is interfering with play. I promise to try to do better!!

What a wonderful community we have here! I will of course post an e-mail to Night Owl.

MESSAGE FROM NIGHT OWL:

Thank you. Just recieved messages. Incredibly good timing. Found my Pete Seeger's Incompleat Folk book intact and many other surprises.

When the house is buldozed there will be no pictures or books that survived going to the dump.

It's been tough but I'm warm and dry. Thank you for the support. Miss you all.

Hope to be online again next week.

And no, musicman is not in trouble for this....

Night Owl
