I think it is important to remember the people who died in Colorado, as much as have another discussion on guns, so this thread is for any discussion and/or info about those victims of gun violence. Here's a roll call of the mosly young adults who died:

Shooting Victims.

Please do not sidetrack, here, on guns. There is a different thread for that debate. Thanks.

When men of violence make us fear
When we talk of revenge yet shed not a tear
When we talk of weapons as being defence
Then we have lost all common sense

But if we stand in the rain to sing and cry
If we remember the lost but let hate die
If we do not live our lives in fear
Then we protect the freedom we hold dear

May their families and friends remeber all that was good in them

I think every day of those who died...but mostly of their friends and families who miss them. I know of one young boy who accidently shot his brother while 'messing' with a gun. It has affected him terribly.

The victims are at peace... their friends & families are not. We must do what we can to help them cope.

Why is a murder victim more deserving of memoralization if killed with a gun than if with a knife...or an axe...or just a club...or beaten to death with nothing but hands and feet...or intentionally hit by a car...or poisoned...?

I could go on, but there seems to be a flaw in the underlying concept of this thread. I know we're all good Liberals here, and that the easy answer is, "It's the guns' fault." But one of the things that's supposed to make a Liberal superior is eschewing easy answers.

Peter

Peter... since it is up to each individual to remember in his/her own way, there is no reason to exclude any victim of violence from the process. There are just more who die from firearms... and that is what is uppermost in our thoughts these days.

Perhaps we should simply concentrate on those who die because of the acts or others, whether careless or intentional. ANY time spent focusing on the grief involved may help us focus on possible solutions also.

Peter, I think it is clear that Kat intended to commemorate that one specific event. My prayers and thoughts go out to those people and to any such victims I am made aware of. But this thread is for those few dozen Batman fans and meant to be without discussion of guns.

I pray that they rest easy and that their loved ones too find solace in remembering their lives rather than their deaths. I pray also that someday those families and all families everywhere will live in a world where going out for an evening's entertainment is not potentially fatal.

Yes, Megan, you have such a way of purity in the way you express such . Thank you for sharing.

Add any victims you may want, Midchuck. I knew someone would say something about the title. The fact is that this is for the CO victims, yes, but others may certainly be remembered here. As for the types of weapons, please take it to the other thread. I will say I've never heard,in recent times, of any mass murder involving other weaponry excepting 9/11.

I have added to the title to make it more clear re' Colorado, etc.

Thanks for the open opportunity to add more victims.

This has been a rough week. Please reflect that guns were not involved but the grief is no less.

—Flooding killed more than three dozen people this past weekend in Bejing.

---Bombs kill 18 rhis weekend in Iraq.

---Crash kills 13 in pickup truck this weekemd in Texas.

---Headon vehicle accident kills three boys scouts and five total in Wyoming.

---31 drown in ferry boat disaster this weekend in Tanzania.

---4 confirmed dead four still missing in China 's Hunan provence this weekend.

---At least 220 confirmed dead in February 2012 during Europe 's "big chill."

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

I think that whatever the circumstances, the important thing to remember is that we must support each other in order to carry on. Those of us who have not suffered have an obligation to offer what we can to those who are suffering. Kindness and care have a way of uplifting the spirit, even in the most desperate tragedies. That's how we survive.

The grief is not limited to the families and the local residents. I have had several conversations recently that demonstrate that folks who have no relation whatsoever to the event are feeling stunned shocked, and very sad, including a coworker of Vietnamese extraction.

This event belongs to *all* of us. RIP, and condolences to those closest to it. To the rest of us, once again, hold your loved ones close, remind them how much you love them, and cherish each moment, for we know not which one will be our last.

Saul

From HERE: Just one of the victims

Gordon Cowden, who at 51 was the oldest person killed, was a self-employed real estate appraiser who had taken his teenage daughters to the midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" when he was killed along with 11 others. His daughters escaped unharmed.

An excerpt from the funeral program attributed to his daughter Brooke read: "I will never forget that in such disorientation and confusion of that night what was certain were your yells, declarations of 'I love you' to both of us. Forever, with love, Brooke."

Cowden's funeral in Denver comes as 20 of the 58 people injured in the shooting remained hospitalized, seven in critical condition.

While our healthcare system sucks, big-time, I was glad to see hospitals treating the victims in CO are doing a good thing for them:
