Subject: Good, the Bad, & the Ugly tune? From: katlaughing Date: 24 Oct 99 - 03:04 AM McBeagle posted a question on the Hanuting Melodies thread, wondering about something s/he thought might be called Soldier's Lament, a harmonic tune from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I went looking and found this, which says the entire score was written by Ennio Morricone. The only tune/song title I saw that came close was The Story of a Soldier. There are some audio clips to listen to, but unfortunately, not that one. Anybody know anymore about this? Thanks, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Good, the Bad, & the Ugly tune? From: Art Thieme Date: 24 Oct 99 - 09:28 PM Kat, We have a CERAMIC MALLARD (a duck. "Why a duck", you ask? "Who knows" I answer.) It's hollow and quite small. There are two holes in the bottom--probably to allow expanding air to escape during it's firing when it was first made. Our son, Chris, discovered when he was really young that if he closed off one of the two holes and blew across the other hole, he could play the exact tune you're thinking of. That just goes to show ya the strange journeys that our folksongs can make! This must be where that guy Morricone stole the melody from---That's worse than anything Dylan ever did... Art |

Or maybe your duck had the Secret Word and it was: DWEEDLE-LEEDLE-LEE--DA-DWEE DEEE

Subject: RE: Good, the Bad, & the Ugly tune? From: katlaughing Date: 24 Oct 99 - 11:15 PM Uh, guys, it wasn't me who was askin'. I'se just tryin to be nice! Actually I love ducks, Art and 'Spaw, you did a really nice translation of that sound into words, a little variation of tweedle dee and tweedle dum, eh? Did Cletus teach you that or Reg and Reg? Anyhow, I think the song McBeagle and I were asking about is not that motif at all, as it comes later in the movie, if I found the right one. Plus this was the last one of those movies and the opening, if you'll click on the above, is different than that. At least what I heard before net congestion took over. But, please feel free to offer your opinions here anytime, to contradict me, to enlighten me (take a few pounds while you're at it okay!); and to BS your way into my heart some more!**BBG** McBeagle, pay no attention to those raconteurs. You'll get the answer, we just have to have fun whie we help out! katlaughingforreal |

Subject: RE: Good, the Bad, & the Ugly tune? From: catspaw49 Date: 25 Oct 99 - 09:53 AM Well dammit Kat, now you've got me into one helluva fix. See, the "boys" were all here awhile ago and were reading over my shoulder. Needless to say, Cletus, Paw, Buford and the Reg boys all loved that damn movie so I had to open this thread and let them read it. They all told me right off that I was thinking about the wrong song, and they got into some weird kind of bizarre whistling contest that was so awful that 2 of the cats went into seizures. But that wasn't the end of it. They were reading your post and noticed you had omitted Reg from your list of Reg, Reg, and Reg, by saying only Reg and Reg. Of course Reg was incensed over it because he feels he's the most important one of the three. They got in a big fight over it and the next thing you know, they went storming out of here with a lot of "Eh-ing" going on. Cletus, Paw, and Buford took Buford's pickup and went after them. Problem is, Cleigh had gone to sleep on the manifold to keep warm and he was damn near killed as he almost leaped into the fan. This is all your fault. We almost had a situation here like the old saying that goes, "For want of a Reg, a Possum was lost.".........or something like that. Spaw |
