Greetings all,

I'm being considered for a job in Phoenix and wonder if there are any Mudcateers there, or if any of you know trad musicians in that area.

Muchas gracias,

WW

WW, I think DougR is there or Tuscon. Congratulations, either way!

Wyo - the area is so beautiful, you won't need mudcatters! Or maybe, the Mudcatters will flock to you, once you're there. Best of luck with the position, I hope things work out for you.

I'd go there in a minute, but alas the 'fam' has roots here now (Dallas), and they come first!

If I get the gig, I'll have to get a big house for visiting Mudcateers.

We can keep working at this thing so we have a series of "safe houses" all over the globe and NONE of us will ever have to pay for a bed and breakfast inn again!!! "Safe Sofas, The Mudcat Way..." Just bring your voice, your instruments and sing for your brekky.

Property is cheap in Meza...there is a fine view of Superstition Mountain from the East end of Town...the land rises so the view is never blocked. Nice thunder-storms.

Lookin' forward to seein' ya soon. Perhaps, we can a kickup a two step at the ol mining company. See you around neighbor.

Best part of (adjectives removed) Phoenix is close proximity (couple hours drive)to lakes and mountains further north in the state. For info on Contra Dances in Phoenix, call 602-979-4875 (Second Saturdays with an open band: also ask about Phoenix Friends of Old Time Music).

Muchas gracias, Rincon Roy. Yes, I know it's a city and it's a hot 'un to boot. BUT...warmer isn't necessarily badder...(Talk to me in August. I will eat each and every word...)

WyoWoman! I hope you do head on out this way. If you don't like Gargoyle's end of town, try mine in Northeast Phoenix! My email address is in bbc's list. Write me and let me know when you will be on your way. I look forward to hearing from you. By the way, I live less than a mile from the best Irish Pub in Phoenix.

Oak Creek Canyon is a very nice place, not too far north from Phoenix and quite beautiful contrast with the man-made California-like mass that fills the "valley" (berries along the stream late August & early spring when you'd most want to escape the desert heat anyway).

oh, and to no one in particular: am finding Robin Williamson's latest "New Fangled Tone" increasingly intriguing.

I used to go to Phoenix on business, and I found a nice little dive on one of the main drags that featured Live Blues. Seems like it had a woman's name like Caldonia's or Bertha's or something. Anyone know it?

Lonesome EJ: I don't recognize the place you mention. There are a couple of good blues places in Phoenix that I do know, "Char's" and "The Rhythm Room, " but neither of them are in the downtown area.

Doug... shows what I know about Phoenix, I guess. I remembered Char's as being downtown, but that is indeed the place I was talking about. What's the address, in case I ever go back?

Lonesome EJ: Char's Has The Blues is located at 4631 North 7th Avenue. That's just south of Camelback Road and west of Central Avenue. If you're ever in town give me a call. I'm in the book!

I try to avoid driving into Phoenix unless I have to, but I live about 100 mi. north (Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon area). DougR, I might not mind the city so much if I could stop at the Irish Pub you mentioned. Since you shared the info. re Char's, how about sharing the name and location of the Irish Pub?

Sure, Reiver2, "The Dubliner Pub" at 40th Street and Thunderbird Rd. Music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday night they have a sort of Hootenany or Sing Along with anybody that wants to joining in. Take Greenway East off I17 to 40th Street and turn right. Can't miss it.

In downtown Phoenix there is Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub located on Monroe and Central Avenue. I think they have music on Friday and Saturday nights only.

Nice to know there is at least one other Mudcatter in the State. DougR

Reiver2: There is an excellent Folk Singer appearing at the Dubliner this weekend (November 5-6) and next weekend. Bill Craig from Toronto. He has been performing here for several years from time to time and is an excellent performer.

Cheyeine was not even listed....

Well, I did interview, but I I didn't really feel that the company was a match for me. I was just beginning to talk myself into being able to stand the heat, too.

But ... sounds fun, and if the winter winds get too daunting here in the wilds o' wyo, I'll set sail for the south and come sit around a pool down there in February. (God, does that feel good to consider...)

Thanks for the information.

WW

Feb usually very nice, like sweet summer other places, but free of all those bugs; and ground fully loaded with sunlight instead of snow. Step into March though and expect chilly rains, cooler weather. However, that last said: if you visit in Feb, stay long enough to take in the Grand Canyon State's biggest Highland Games & Fest in Mesa 2/26 & 27/2000: for details, check out http://www.arizonascots.com (shoot, might even see some Tucson folks there...)
