Subject: RE: Berwick-on-Tweed area 22-29 Sept ? From: MoorleyMan Date: 29 Sep 12 - 03:07 PM Thanks a lot Alex S for the chippy guide. I'll def note that for next time - having just returned, today (saw the post too late unfortunately!)... however, I had some very good fish & chips at the Cross Hill Chippy at Chirnside last Sat so couldn't resist a second helping later in the week! Sadly as far as visits to folk clubs etc went, most of the week was scuppered by the storms and flooding. Atrocious driving conditions on Monday prevented me getting to the Ship at Low Newton, then floods effectively closed Haddington so I didn't make the Wednesday folk club.. but I did make it to Kelso on Friday and really enjoyed the Cobbles session in particular, thanks guys, wish I could've stayed till chuckout time!! |

Subject: RE: Berwick-on-Tweed area 22-29 Sept ? From: Allan Conn Date: 22 Sep 12 - 03:18 AM Hope you see this before you leave but there is the Denholm Folk Club (between Jedburgh and Hawick) at the Cross Keys on the Thursday night. Entry is free. The Kelso Folk & Live Music Club's open mic starts of at the Ace Centre (adjoins the Ice Rink)at Kelso at around 8pm on the Friday night. Entry is £2 with £1 going towards the club to help pay for the room at the Ace whilst the other is a bottling charge from the Ace itself. Take your own alcohol whilst soft drinks and food are available at the premises. The open mic is any kind of music so don't expect it to be particularly folk based. That finishes up around 10pm or just after but the music continues down at the Cobbles Inn which is a lively pub atmosphere. Again it depends on who turns up but this tends to veer more towards the folk side. I'm sure one of the pubs in Spittal (on the south side of the Tweed in Berwick) has a session on a Wednesday night. Can't remember the name but some locals should be able to help if you ask. As far as gigs go in the Borders area Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham are at the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm on Thursday evening. Kan are playing at the Eastgate in Peebles; Fidil at the Heart of Hawick; and Gina McCormack& Nigel Clayton at Melrose Parish Church - all on the Friday evening |

Subject: RE: Berwick-on-Tweed area 22-29 Sept ? From: MoorleyMan Date: 10 Sep 12 - 07:30 PM Done that - it yields nothing in the way of sessions/singarounds/clubs. And neither does the site list anything under the Scottish Borders locality. I've also looked up the Footstompin' site, and a couple of other recommended sites - but found nothing closer than Edinburgh itself. Strange... Still open to suggestions.. |

Subject: RE: Berwick-on-Tweed area 22-29 Sept ? From: MoorleyMan Date: 10 Sep 12 - 11:26 AM Thanks for trying - but as you say, the festival is long gone - it happened in mid-August - so there's a dearth of information about anything else in the area since then! Anyone else have any ideas please? |
Subject: RE: Berwick-on-Tweed area 22-29 Sept ? From: it'smagic Date: 06 Sep 12 - 07:37 PM II was at the music festival in Innerleithen, north of there, in August. There seems to be a lot going on. The Innerleithen festival has a website and a Facebook page. You could probably get some information from them. I picked up a few folders on events just for reference.
