Ah, yes...LBJ's big excuse for major military intervention in the Vietnam War. North Vietnam had supposedly launched a dastardly and unprovoked attack on the mighty American Navy in the Gulf of Tonkin...and you know the rest.

Hey, would your government lie to you???? Unthinkable!

And it's just as unthinkable now....right? Iran REALLY IS a nuclear danger to the entire world, yessiree, and so was Iraq with those terrible WMDS they never used for some reason...and Lybia...and Afghanistan...and Yemen...and what about Syria?

And the Poles really did rape all those young German women and attack Germany first in '39 too. ;-) Uh-huh. Major powers never initiate wars against small powers without just cause, do they?

Watch for the next pre-emptive war to "preserve our freedom and our way of life"...coming to you sometime soon from the good folks at CNN and the State Department.

Fake! The sonar picked up whale farts instead of enemy vessels.

It was Johnson who played Bush's war.

It's not really their fault they believe anything the government tells them. They've undergone indoctrination since birth.
You challenge their reality and it scares them.

Well, if you mean the Jim Morrison I knew in Toronto 30 years ago...no. He's alive and teaching elementary school. If you mean the famous one...he's definitely moved on to that great recording studio in the sky. ;-) You gotta say this, though, he had an interesting life while it lasted.

How do you know that so definitely, L.H.? Apparently you have seen solider evidence for that than for...say the moon landings for example. Did you see the cadaver yourself? If so, did you personally do a DNA check to see if it was really Morrison?

Officer: Here, here, you can't sleep here. Hey, man, wake up. You can't sleep on the sidewalk.
Prods with boot.
Inebriate sits up. Looks around blearily. Staggers to a stand. Peers at Officer.
Officer, hic do you know me? Do you know me, Officer?
Officer: No
Inebriate: Then hic how do you know it was me?

That sounds like a dodge Shane would try, Ebbie. In fact, he probably already has tried it.

Frogprince - Hey, c'mon...I put a smiley face after that statement. ;-) Yes, the famous Jim Morrison might still be alive...just as alive as Paul McCartney...or Elvis...or Wayne Newton. After all, I've simply taken a lot of other people's word that he was dead and assumed they knew what they were talking about. Gosh, think what a scoop it would be for some enterprising newsman to get to the bottom of this mystery and prove it once and for all! If alive, would he still claim to be "the Lizard King"? I get chills just thinking about the possibilities, don't you? And it would be even cooler if Ed Sullivan was still alive, though he never really looked like he was, even back in the day.

The loss of the USS Maine is an interesting case...may have been a false flag "attack"...may have been a mere accidental mishap (spontaneous combustion in the ship's coal bunkers causing a magazine explosion) rather than an attack. If so, it occurred at the absolute perfect time and place to start a war with Spain, which seems just a little too perfect. Whatever it was, it was used as an excuse to whip up war fever in the USA for a war that could only end in big and desirable gains for the USA, giving them major possessions and vital naval bases in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Spain never had a chance. The USA still occupies an important base in Cuba to this day...Guantanamo. That this is so is almost as incredible as it would be for Soviet Russia to have had a major military base in, say, Israel or South Korea or Japan...during the Cold War.

The USA occupation of the Phillipines in 1898, supposedly done to "free the Filipinos", ended up as a terribly bloody war of occupation fought against the native Filipinos by the US Army. The same people who had fought Spanish colonial rule died by the thousands fighting American colonial rule in one of the most vicious colonial wars on record. Filipinos finally gained their independence about half a century later, following the end of WWII.

A number of USA wars have been launched after an attack...or at least an alleged attack...on a USA warship (or warships). One which was not launched was an American war on Israel after Israeli jets and torpedo boats deliberately and repeatedly attacked and tried to sink the U.S.S. Liberty, an American intelligence gathering ship, during the 6-Day War. America was a neutral in that conflict.

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy torpedo boats, on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War.[2] The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 170 crew members, and severely damaged the ship.[3] At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1][4]

Both the Israeli and U.S. governments conducted inquiries and issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the identity of the USS Liberty,[5] though others, including all of the ship's survivors that could be located four decades later, have rejected these conclusions and maintain that the attack was deliberate.[6]

In May 1968, the Israeli government paid US$3,323,500 (US$22.2 million in 2012) as full payment to the families of the 34 men killed in the attack. In March 1969, Israel paid a further $3,566,457 in compensation to the men who had been wounded. On 18 December 1980, it agreed to pay $6 million as settlement for the final U.S. bill of $17,132,709 for material damage to the Liberty itself plus 13 years' interest.[7]

If the USA had desired a war with Israel, this incident would have served the purpose admirably. The USA, however, had no such desire, so what would have landed any targeted country of American policy in extremely hot water proved simply to be an incident that embarrassed the 2 powers involved.

Imagine if an Arab nation had done it....

Little Hawk: "......................Imagine if an Arab nation had done it...."

Yeah, Obama would have apologized, given them air support, sent them money, and looked stupid to the nation, as he tried to explain it all away!

GfS

P.S...and the far left liberal fanatic lunatic fringe, would be making up preposterous explanations, that if a rational man didn't believe, they'd call him a bigot racist!

OH...and one more tidbit....

The U.S. Embassies , in Libya and Egypt were sacked, and four Americans killed, including the Ambassador, because the protesters were protesting a film on 'YouTube'?..Real or Fake?????????

Hint: From all the 'news' reports, they were chanting, "Obama, We are a billion Osamas!"

(No mention of them chanting ANYTHING about a film!)

Another Hint: At the DNC, Obama's spiking the football about the death of OBL, was boasted 21 times!

Now I don't know if the film 'smokescreen' was very true....but what I posted is absolutely true!

Gosh, think it might have to do with his foreign policies?

You know, ignore the Iranian's when they are protesting and dying in the streets, root for the Egyptians, ignore the Syrian civilians when they are dying in the streets, give air support to the Libyans....

BTW, Saudis are coming up on the list....just think, if they got overthrown, do you think we could rationalize not paying them off for all the U.S. notes they're holding, so we'd buy their oil??..Gosh, what a great reason to drill here, huh?....Ever heard that before???
Broke it here on Mudcat, close to a year ago.....

Sane or gifted??
Real or fake??
Republican or Democrat??

GfS

Rapparee: "You know, after damned a half a century I don't really give a rat's ass."

...and now they can keep doing it over and over again, which they have, and you've been properly programmed to be numb about that corruption and deception. You are undoubtedly just the type of willing citizen whom they have designed you to be!

Frankly, I think it's a little scary....

Stick to the music...it brings peace of mind, that deception rolls off, like water off a duck's back!

Well, but after considerably more than half a century, Rap, the Iranians DO give a rat's ass about the CIA toppling their fledgling democracy in the 1950s and replacing it with the dictatorial rule of the Shah...which resulted, of course, in ending the nationalization of Iran's oil industry and delivering it into the hands of western oil corporations. That's all it's ever really been about: who controls and profits from the oil.

Iranians have not forgotten, because it was the single most serious blow against their independence in the post World War II era. They have also not forgotten how the USA used Saddam's Iraq military as a proxy to punish them for throwing out the Shah, for the US embassy hostage crisis, and for resisting western control of Iran. That Iran-Iraq war encouraged and supplied by the West cost a great deal more than a mere few thousand Iranians their lives.

None of this has been forgotten, because Middle Easterners know their history.

..and those who care little about their heritage, have short attention spans....and that is where fast paced entertainment comes in...an efficient way to have you NOT pay attention!..

...however, carrying a grudge over long periods of time has it's bad side effects, as well.

Forgiveness, and being aware, is a far higher calling in this life!...
and why be a volunteer to stupidity??..It only makes you easier to manipulate!

Keep your filters clean, and Create Music and bring life!...deceptive politics becomes boring, except for the soap opera drama that it brings with it....oh, and death!
