I want to avoid confusion, so I decided to start up a thread for my singing and add new songs when I record them.
http://karaokescene.com/ss/song.php?id=91788. So my first post here in this thread is my first ever recording of Babalu. I hope my accent isn't too bad. I sang it soft because it's meant to be a prayer.

Nice drum and especially the sticks....however bones or at least spoons would.work better.

Go back and try again.

Anyone have an opinion that isn't just a slam? (I'll sing it louder in my next recording)

Volume and balance are OK; no need to sing it louder.

You should listen to any recordings prior to uploading them Mowen. I literally couldn't hear you singing at all behind the backing track on Downeaster Alexa

Your highlighted link doesn't work - should be:

Twilight in Barakeesh

I had a listen - in fact I had two listens. My main crit is that I can't really hear your voice as it's drowned out - not so much by the piano but by the synthesised instrument (is it supposed to be an oboe or a clarinet?) that you're singing along to.

You should remix if you can, otherwise re-do - but, whichever, without the solo instrument. Otherwise it's impossible to make any real judgement.

Ditto Will

Flat and nasal at the end of phrases.

Return to your secondary school choral teacher and ask for a recommendation to a good local voice coach.

Pull on your thick-skinned suit, Morwen.

I admire your courage in posting links to your singing while you are still a beginner. You have a good start and a long way to go- as do I- before your singing can reach a dependably professional level. There are an abundance of people in the world to keep us humble.

Do the work, learn what you can from everyone you encounter, and pay attention to those who are willing to teach what you need to know (like Will Fly). Be willing to laugh. Keep singing.

Will Fly: I'll see if I can edit that MIDI in Sibelius (I don't use it all that often, and so am unsure how to really work it)

Maeve: Thanks for that. I'll keep that in mind.

Guest: I'll work on that.

Your little "karokee " play area allows for a kinder more gentle feedback.

I suggest you focus into their forum. They are telling you the same feedback.

Why a young man like you is not in a job, apprenticeship, school, ... makes one wonder....are you "special?" Perhaps, Ausburgers?

I found a site http://hobbitmusic.webs.com/) with musical settings of Tolkien's poems from The Hobbit and LOTR. The tune in the following recording comes from there. I'm a huge Tolkienite, so yeah, I picked an easy-to-remember piece. Plus the words of the poem are just beautiful.

The King Beneath The Mountains

Hi Morwen, good to see that you continue to be enthusiastic - that's what (relative) youth is for. Are you asking for more hints about your singing? If you still have your voice trainer, best stick to what she or he tells you, for at least one year, unless you have reasons to doubt her or his competence.

If your uni plans are concrete enough, you may also profit from preparing yourself. For example, if you learned any foreign language, brush up your grammar - invaluable! (I once held a talk to an audience of young musicologists, quoting a text in French, and heard them protest "We learn Latin and Italian here; French is not required!")
