-The govt (read as "Obama Administration") is anti-Catholic.

-Catholics help people more than any other group.

-Obamacare "is a threat and insult to every religious group."

-"Just about every segment of society is worse off" since Obama took office.

-(Apparently) thanks to Obama, Iran is "four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon."

-American foreign policy lacks "moral clarity."

How does this stack up to reality in your opinion?

Ayn Rand is a sick ideologue who has infected the minds of Paul Ryan and Alan Greenspan,
as well as other GOPlers.

She is beyond sociopathy and more psychopathic.

Catholics do not help people more than any other group although they do their share.
I would submit that the Quakers do more than every other group without advertising it.

Obamacare is the road to national health care. If they could just cut out the insurance companies it would improve US health care immeasurably. Every civilized country in the world has national health care except the US.

Ryan's "moral clarity" is a warped mindset that requires military solutions to diplomatic issues

Iran is smart enough not to employ nuke weapons.

Every segement of society is worse off since Bush took office. Obama is cleaning up his mess.

Paul Ryan is somewhat insane and Romney picking him as VP says a lot about
a Romney Administration. Lets hope that this doesn't happen.

"-(Apparently) thanks to Obama, Iran is "four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon."

It always surprises me when someone uses a phrase like that, because if an event ever happens, of course a period of time makes it closer than it was. If something happens tomorrow then today is closer to it than yesterday was.

On the other hand if nothing ever happens, all bets are off...

"four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon."

That is quite a feat in 3 years, eight months.

The GOP keeps trying to give the President the worst parts of his predecessor's eight horrible years. Yet no credit for any of the good things that have happened in the past three years and eight months.

It is an odd world that Mr. Ryan inhabits.

"Four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon" - even give a few months - would be precisely the same as "four years closer to not gaining a nuclear weapon", all depending what happens.

Or "four years closer to winning the presidential election" or "losing the presidential election" for that matter.

Or "four years closer to" anything at all that might or might not happen.

Of course, Paul Ryan's brand of Catholicism is more than a bit warped, and it earned him a condemnation from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (usccb.org).

I was part of a team representing USCCB at a meeting with our local Congressman, Tom McClintock - one of the most conservative members of Congress. McClintock is Baptist, but he has a couple of right-wing Catholics on his staff (white men in suits, of course). These two Catholic guys harangued us about the righteousness of the Ryan budget, which they saw as a reflection of True Catholicism, despite the fact that the majority of U.S. Catholic bishops had voiced a strong disagreement with Ryan and his budget.

This is a new tack from right-wing American Catholic extremists, starting with the brochures produced in 2008 by anti-abortionist Randall Terry, that looked like they were published by the Catholic Church. Right-wing Catholic extremists now speak as if they are the only true voice of the Catholic Church. You'll see all sorts of brochures and videos and other publications that claim to speak for the Catholic Church, but most of these are frauds - and as a Catholic, Paul Ryan is a fraud. He does not speak for the Catholic Church.

As I mentioned on another thread, Ryan claimed that Obama wants "a country where everything is free - but us."

He also insisted that "the Catholic church has done more for women and children than Obamacare ever will!"

Well, duh, the CC has had a 2,000-year head start, and Obamacare is unlikely to last even half that long, no matter who's elected.

And Ryan said that if O wins, his crazy plans will be "unstoppable" because he won't be running for re-election in 2016. He'll be totally out of control!

Ryan also promised that if Obama wins, when Ryan's children are the age he is now, they'll be living in an America that will be "unrecognizable."

That will be in about 2045, so it may be true no matter who wins.

What bugs me most is that millions just eat this stuff up, including the equivocation (repeated yesterday for the zillionth time) that Obamacare steals $716 billion from the Medicare budget. What it does, according to every nonpartisan expert, is cut the budget by that much waste, subsidies to hospitals, etc., etc. None of it comes from payments to seniors! And Ryan's own proposal cuts the same amount!

Romney warns that Obama "says things that aren't true." Maybe. But he'll have to go some to beat that one.

As to the claim that ObamaCare damages Medicare, here is a good explanation:

pdq, Do you live in a free enterprise country or not? The person at the "Heritage Foundation" who wrote that article apparently does not.

In a free market system it is not possible to "force facilities to operate at a loss." They will either make a profit, go out of business or find other business. Ryan's proposition supposedly forces insurers and facilities to "compete to make the system more efficient." How on earth does setting a reasonable target for them and cutting out the fees to the middlemen make that less likely?

I wonder, I wonder often, if any GOP supporters know the first thing about free enterprise or business. If they do know the first thing, they are good at pretending that they don't.

The 716 billion is taken from what the Obama Administration and the Health Care Industry think of as waste and overpayment. That was Paul Ryan's opinion before he began to run for VP.

Ryan changed to fit Romney's narrative.

Also, while President Obama and the Democrats did take 716 billion from funding from current recipients, pretty much all of that goes back to seniors in preventative care and closing the doughnut hole on the GOP's very poorly written drug benefit.

So while it is technically true that current benefits are cut to pay for parts of the Affordable Care Act. It is certainly a lie to say that those cuts are to the detriment of current seniors.

I was poking around in the "Catechism" of the Catholic Church (the latest one,no less) last night, searching in a desultory fashion for the Church's official stand on pederasty (they're against it, if you were wondering).

There is some very, very interesting stuff in there and I'd suggest that Paul Ryan, et al., read it before opening their mouths about what the Church does and does not say about something.

If Obamacare is going to force hospitals to operate at a loss, how does one explain the fact that, on the day the supreme court declared Obamacare constitutional, hospital stocks took a big jump?

Evidently, investors believe hospitals will be more profitable under Obamacare than before even though Medicare payments will be reduced.
Why? They will no longer have to treat uninsured patients for free.

As the government takes a bigger and bigger role in things, the "free market" eventually becomes a "manipulated market".

The government rewards its friends and punishes its preceived enemies.

The approval of ObamaCare by Justice Roberts saw the potential "winners" advance and the "losers" fade.

America wins with the Affordable Care Act... Yes, it is an interim program toward the single payer, efficient systems that everyone else has already figured out is cheaper and better... But it's an important step...

Single payer will be here by 2025...

Look, there has never BEEN a "Free Market." There has been "free trade" and "open markets" but there has never been and never will be a "free market."

How could there be? Economically "free market" is an oxymoron.

If you want free trade and open markets then you'll have to drop ALL protection for the goods and service produced in your country AND have the same in the countries to which you sell -- no import duties, no tariffs, no "protection" of any kind. Do you really want that? -- remember, it also works in reverse.

There CERTAINLY IS a free market to the extent that the government CANNOT force private enterprise to operate at a loss.

<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>

Do you understand how the US health care system works? The government is half of it NOW! It was before the ACA. The health insurance companies milk the health people with income until they become old and broke, then the government takes over. In the US system 2/3rds of the money is spent on end of life and we, the taxpayers have been paying that after the insurance companies have milked their customers dry of money and dropped them for "preexisting conditions." For the sake of the treasury, and the baby boomers hit retirement that had to stop.

>>>>The government rewards its friends and punishes its preceived enemies.<<<<

That is horse dung. There are no perceived "enemies" asking you to pay a fair share of tax does not make you an "enemy" it makes you a patriot. Unless your name is Koch. Then it makes you a spoiled silver spoon heir to money you did not earn messing with things you apparently have no moral stake in.

>>>>> The approval of ObamaCare by Justice Roberts saw the potential "winners" advance and the "losers" fade. <<<<

Roberts followed the law instead of ideology. But I'd guess you'd rather have activist judges like Alito and Thomas subvert the will of the people in a duly passed law rather than have such decisions made at the ballot box.   How soon the "conservative" tune changes when they get a majority of judges.
