Subject: BS: PCC Elections - what do you think? From: theleveller Date: 29 Oct 12 - 04:45 AM It seems that most of the people I've talked to about the forthcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections are not interested, don't know who the candidates are or are opposed to the whole idea of politicising our police force. I fall into the latter category and had decided to show my opposition by not voting. Now, however, I've looked at the candidate list and I find that two of the biggest oafs in politics (with the exception of Boris the Buffoon) are standing in my area: John Prescott and Godfrey Bloom. If either got elected it would be an unmitigated disaster for our police force, so I'm in a bit of a quandary. Do I vote (probably for the only candidate who actually has any experience of policing) or do I stick to my original intention? Hmmm…have to think about that one. What do you think of the elections? |
Subject: RE: BS: PCC Elections - what do you think? From: Will Fly Date: 29 Oct 12 - 04:58 AM opposed to the whole idea of politicising our police force. I fall into the latter category So do I, Leveller, so do I - and wonder, yet again, what's got into this country's governments. |
Subject: RE: BS: PCC Elections - what do you think? From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Oct 12 - 05:04 AM I am finding it very difficult to discover what the candidates in my area actually think (if anything) and suspect that the great master plan is to increase venal political power over the police. That is likely to be dangerous. |

If people can't find the information they need (there is a website but you have to take the trouble to search) then they will simply vots along party lines, which will disadvantage the independent candidates who, certainly in the case of my area, appear to be the most qualified candidates. |

Subject: RE: BS: PCC Elections - what do you think? From: Owen Woodson Date: 29 Oct 12 - 08:31 AM Sounds like a good idea in principle. An accountable police force and all that. However, like Richard, I haven't a clue who my local candidates are and, with a projected turnout of 18%, it sounds to me like it would have been cheaper to put on a Whitehall farce. A police farce. Now there's a thought. |
Subject: RE: BS: PCC Elections - what do you think? From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Oct 12 - 09:16 AM I found the candidates, but the info on them is sparse and bland and gives no real clue. |
