Subject: RE: BS: Voters Write in 'Darwin' From: GUEST Date: 09 Nov 12 - 07:08 PM By Barbara Liston and Verna Gates Thu Nov 8, 2012 9:24am EST (Reuters) - Florida Democrat Earl K. Wood and Alabama Republican Charles Beasley won their respective elections but they will not take office. Both men died weeks before the November 6 election yet managed to beat their very much alive opponents by comfortable margins. Wood died on October 15 from natural causes at age 96, during his campaign for a 12th term as Orange County Tax Collector in Orlando, Florida. ########## The rest of the article is at http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/08/us-usa-campaign-dead-idUSBRE8A62AK20121108 |

Subject: RE: BS: Voters Write in 'Darwin' From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Nov 12 - 09:05 AM What kind of excuse for a democracy is it where candidates for office don't have to compete for votes? For God's sake you should at very least have Monster Raving Loony Party candidates... |

Subject: RE: BS: Voters Write in 'Darwin' From: Don Firth Date: 14 Nov 12 - 05:03 PM Well, the law stipulates that the election must be held, even if there is only one candidate for the office. This sort of thing often happens in some of the smaller state and municipal elections. In Washington State, for example, there were a few State Supreme Court Judges who ran unopposed, along with a couple of county offices. What this tends to imply is that the incumbent is doing a sufficiently good job that no one feels impelled to challenge them for the office. But the option—in all offices, including President of the United States—of writing in names is on the ballot just in case. There HAVE been instances when a write-in candidate has defeated a candidate on the ballot. Also, it DOES give people an opportunity to give a solo candidate a stern (even if sometimes humorous) message, such as in the case under discussion. Don Firth |

"What this tends to imply is that the incumbent is doing a sufficiently good job that no one feels impelled to challenge them for the office." That don't say much good about Georgia, USA, IMO. Do they have schools? Can people that live there read? |

Subject: RE: BS: Voters Write in 'Darwin' From: GUEST,Lighter Date: 14 Nov 12 - 07:24 PM What it really implies is that no local opposition party can find a challenger who has a chance of winning. |

Subject: RE: BS: Voters Write in 'Darwin' From: gnu Date: 14 Nov 12 - 07:36 PM Always on my no-mind Georgia? I just don't understand how people cannot UNDERSATND evolution AND God. They are both simple concepts. One proven and the other is "a good way to go". Accept BOTH and God's yer uncle... Uncle Bob. After all, Bob created evolution... didn't he? |
