Subject: Twinkie references in song From: Desert Dancer Date: 18 Nov 12 - 12:07 PM Twinkie references in song... Slate has assembled them. And Hostess Cupcakes and Wonder Bread, for good measure. Requiems for a Twinkie: Pop's Greatest Shout-Outs to Hostess Snacks [all the examples have YouTube links -- I'm not going to transcribe 'em all... if you're interested, go to Slate, linked above.] The news that Hostess is going out of business has been met with sadness from nearly everyone who's enjoyed a sugar-filled, individually-wrapped cupcake or the spongy cream-filled goodness of a Twinkie. In honor of the brand, which has been around since 1930, Brow Beat takes a look at the pop songs that have given shout-outs to our favorite Hostess snacks. Any to add? Any on the current news of the brand's demise? ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Twinkie references in song From: PHJim Date: 18 Nov 12 - 10:38 PM Charley, I'm not sure I've ever tasted a Twinky. Someone at the local music store was saying they may have been a bit premature, seeing as how some states are considering legalizing marijuana. |
Subject: RE: Twinkie references in song From: GUEST Date: 19 Nov 12 - 07:33 AM He was eating Twinkies, as he drove along the highway Listening to Merle Haggard and his band He didn't see the semi, as he came around the corner And he died with his Ding Dong in his hand! Oh yes he died with his Ding Dong in his hand He scattered cream filled cupcakes 'cross the land One of life's great big no-no's, He was reaching for his Ho-Ho's And he died with his Ding Dong in his hand He was a country singer, who was eatin' Zingers As he sang with a red-hot country band The band was really smokin', 'til the singer started chokin' And he died with his Ding Dong in his hand! Yes he died with his Ding Dong in his hand That last song he sang was really grand He thought he was the mostest, 'til he bit that big fat Hostess And he died with his Ding Dong in his hand! Yes, he died with his Ding-Dong in his hand He scattered cream-filled cupcakes 'cross the land Well, I hope and I pray that when I reach that fateful day, I will die with a great big humongous Ding-Dong… or a severely large Suzy-Q… maybe some of them powdered doughnuts that they leave out on the shelf at the local stop & rob for about three years… in my hand (Stavro Arrgolus) see a performance by "The Indian and the White Guy": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz40CLVsxpw |
