Subject: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: SINSULL Date: 16 Jan 13 - 10:59 AM Read it and weep, MacKenzie! http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/16/dining/american-malted-whiskeys-win-acclaim.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 16 Jan 13 - 11:36 AM I don't think the reporter actually knew what he was talking about. However, I have been impressed by among others, Amrut from South India, where an 8 year old would probably all have gone to the "Angel's Share", thanks to the humidity and heat, and over Christmas I had some rather nice Penderyn (Welsh). The more the merrier! |

It was an interesting article - clearly the US varieties won't taste the same because of the new oak barrels, and he made the case for why the other things have gone into it. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Bill D Date: 16 Jan 13 - 02:12 PM I don't recall seeing any of those US brands in the stores in MY county...possibly because my county runs its own liquor authority and doesn't bother with them---- and possibly because, as one distiller said: 'The Japanese try to buy it all' |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 16 Jan 13 - 05:46 PM The article was interesting, but the reporter appeared to have derived it from other sources, so a bit of reading between the lines was necessary. I felt it raised quite a few questions which it failed to answer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: SINSULL Date: 16 Jan 13 - 07:44 PM Wrong MacKenzie - I was tweaking John's nose. LOL If I can locate a bottle we will have a blind tasting at SINSULL's and end up blind drunk but safely tucked away in the odd bed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: GUEST,999 Date: 16 Jan 13 - 08:12 PM I went to Google Images and found an odd bed. I don't know if it's THE odd bed. I suppose it could be depending on your taste :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Jan 13 - 02:36 PM Yesterday I asked about that Waco scotch at a new large wine/liquor store in town. The woman I spoke with hadn't heard about it (or others mentioned in the article), but I imagine she'll look into it. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Ebbie Date: 17 Jan 13 - 09:42 PM 9, that 'odd bed' would look better if the top half were the head board, doncha think? On the other hand I'm not sure I would like sleeping on tomato and onion, whether virtual or real. |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Pete Jennings Date: 18 Jan 13 - 01:05 PM Bet you wouldn't like to sleep in this bed either! |
Subject: RE: BS: Waco, TX Single Malt is Best in Glass From: Bill D Date: 18 Jan 13 - 01:40 PM The bed itself just looks rumpled.... and I've seen far worse "beside the bed" collections. |
