I don't think the reporter actually knew what he was talking about. However, I have been impressed by among others, Amrut from South India, where an 8 year old would probably all have gone to the "Angel's Share", thanks to the humidity and heat, and over Christmas I had some rather nice Penderyn (Welsh). The more the merrier!

Why discount or dismiss the reporter? It was an interesting article - clearly the US varieties won't taste the same because of the new oak barrels, and he made the case for why the other things have gone into it.

Those same folks couldn't distinguish between a third and fifth pressing muscatel that's been aged a whole month. Pffft.

I don't recall seeing any of those US brands in the stores in MY county...possibly because my county runs its own liquor authority and doesn't bother with them---- and possibly because, as one distiller said: 'The Japanese try to buy it all'

The article was interesting, but the reporter appeared to have derived it from other sources, so a bit of reading between the lines was necessary. I felt it raised quite a few questions which it failed to answer.

Yesterday I asked about that Waco scotch at a new large wine/liquor store in town. The woman I spoke with hadn't heard about it (or others mentioned in the article), but I imagine she'll look into it.

9, that 'odd bed' would look better if the top half were the head board, doncha think? On the other hand I'm not sure I would like sleeping on tomato and onion, whether virtual or real.

The bed itself just looks rumpled.... and I've seen far worse "beside the bed" collections.
