Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Been on the Road So Long From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 20 Jan 13 - 05:31 AM Yes it was on a single. Because it was on the coffee bar jukebox in Exeter's very bohemian El Zamba coffee bar. Also we all learned it off bert jamsch's It Don't Bother Me album - plua few Jansch style guitar histrionics. Wish i was 16 again! |

Subject: Lyr Add: BEEN ON THE ROAD SO LONG (Alex Campbell) From: alex s Date: 19 Jan 13 - 09:00 AM I went to see him in Chichester and he sang this song, which he wrote. I've been on the road, so long Been tired and cold, so long I've been to the south where the winds they are warm Travelling the road of no return, so long I've seen what was war, so long The ruins and the scars, so long The mansions of mud, the wounds and the blood Seen the dying of all that was good, so long. Seen the world in a shroud, so long A mushrooming cloud, so long And the lies and the greed of the leaders of men Those cheats who would take us to war again, so long. Yet hope is in me, so long For it's love that I see, so long The courage and strength of a young man's smile The faith that is in a little child, so long Main chords were C and Fmaj7 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Been on the Road So Long From: Snuffy Date: 19 Jan 13 - 08:45 AM Written and performed by Alex Campbell: I have it by him on a 2006 3-CD compilation set "Borderlands: the best of Scottish Folk", where the credit is Campbell and the publication date is 1965. But the sleeve notes say no more than "his de facto signature tune, the world-weary 'Been On The road So Long'" |
