A new genealogical research paper claims to have found a quite ancient great ... great grandmother of most of us.

Although not a high resolution image, a fairly large portrait of granny is included, that you can add to your family tree if you wish.

The description of the genealogical researches conducted were quite fascinating to me, and seem to have shown some falacies in prior researches which likely will be modified to accomodate the new findings. Since the methods are not simply applied to personal researches, they may be of lesser interest to some; but others will have to take a look and decide for themselves.

One difficult of adding "granny" to your personal tree is that it does leave about 6,000,000 generations you'll need to fill in between her and the oldest other ancestors you're likely to have found. A second consideration is that including her does clearly make your pussycat (and the rat in your cellar) both distant cousins.

I had a little trouble with the family features thing, with respect to my more recent lineage. A former brother in law, however, did show a slight resemblance (except for not having the pretty hair). Maybe a search back in his line might firm up some characteristic features, but I have enough trouble trying to find all my own bootleggers and hoss thieves that ran off and hid when the census takers came 'round.

Ah, she's sweet. I love her tail. Neither of my grannies had a tail. (Or maybe they just kept them out of sight?)

My (older) sister suffered a broken tail bone when she was a teen. Someone thought it would be funny to yank a chair out from under her when she was intending to sit down. She landed on an elbow of a radiator pipe behind her.

Although there's not much tailbone there, I can attest that they heal slowly and are apparently rather painful - for a long time.

I've avoided hanging from mine since.

Hahaha John. Wouldn't it be handy though to have a tail? Especially a prehensile one. So useful to steady oneself on the bus or hang from the tree to pick the high-up apples. I had a friend called Rosemary who as a little girl suffered just the same injury as your sister, and poor lass it was at her own Birthday party!
